Since today is my 29th birthday, I want to share some life lessons I’ve learnt so far:
1. Just because you’re nice to people, doesn’t mean they’re gonna be nice to you too
2. Always learn to manage your expectations to avoid disappointments
3. Things happen for a reason. The reason may take some time to unveil, but there’s always a reason.
4. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes, because you can learn a lot from them
5. Everything requires time. Healing, getting to know people, learning new skills, moving on. Let time take its course.
6. It’s okay to be sad & feel down. We’re only human after all. The most important thing is you must pick yourself up after that.
7. You only have yourself. A strong support system helps, but in the end, you only have yourself to make changes in your life, to feel better / be better.
8. Don’t let people decide things for you. Do what makes you happy as long as your decisions don’t cause harm to others.
9. Heartbreaks & disappointments are inevitable. You’ll get better at handling them.
10. What doesn’t kill you really makes you stronger. The heartbreaks, the diagnosis, the disappointments. One day you’ll look back and think “huh, i survived that”.
11. Never let people disrespect you. If you don’t respect yourself enough, people will walk all over you.
12. You can’t really control how things go / can’t change a situation, but you can always control your reaction.
13. When you can’t change something, learn to tolerate / adapt. If you can’t tolerate it, you can always leave. Maybe it’s just not the right fit for you.
14. Not everything deserves / needs a reaction / response / explanation. Choose where to invest your energy wisely.
15. If they don’t matter to you, don’t care too much about what they think of you.
