To the businesses complaining they cannot find employees because of #CERB .......A thread.
My husband has been off of work since March 2020, the beginning of the pandemic. He checks the employment sites daily, networks, sends out countless resumes. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. 1/x
He has 26 years of experience in his business, the optical lab industry. He is not opposed to finding a new career, in fact, it has been on his mind for awhile. Because of this, he does not limit himself to the types of jobs he applies for. 2/x
He has submitted resumes to all sorts of businesses from the optical world, service industry, the food industry, warehouses, other lab industries, retail, production work, and as many as he can with the qualifications he has. 3/x
And you know how many calls he gets for interviews? I believe over the last year and a half, he has had 2 phone interviews, and one in person interview, both in the optical business, but more the retail side. NOBODY ELSE CALLS. 4/x
I just don't buy the businesses who are saying they can't find employees. "They want to stay home and collect CERB" they say. BULLSHIT, I say. They are getting the applications and resumes. They are getting countless ones. 5/x
There is nothing wrong with my hubby's resume, aside from the fact that the vast majority of his experience and skills are from one industry. An industry that has been slowly dying out in Calgary (as far as optical manufacturing labs go.) 6/x
Dispensaries and optical stores won't hire him for the front office because he has no sales experience. No reception experience. He wants to get back to work so badly and has been since March 2020. He is a hardworking man. Just stuck. 7/x
To these businesses that supposedly can't find employees, you should try calling some of those inexperienced, from a different industry, people. My husband would love a chance. 8/fin.
