Muhammad Khan avoids jail despite admitting to multiple sex attacks on women at Melbourne music festivals and on public transport. The Keillor father-of-two has instead been given a 2 year Community Corrections Order. He won’t be registered as a sex offender. @9NewsMelb
Khan’s offending started in 2015. A woman was with her sister at St Kilda Festival. She felt a person standing behind her and warmth on her back. Turned around to see a man doing his pants up. Khan had ejaculated on her clothing. The victim helped police create a suspect sketch.
In 2017 a woman was on a packed tram leaving Flinders St. Khan touched her leg then ejaculated on her dress. He then got off the tram.
In 2018 at the Brunswick Festival a woman was in a crowd of 60 people, watching a performer on stage, when Khan ejaculated on her pants. She turned around and “saw a man staring at me with a smile on his face”.
Khan’s offending escalated in 2019 at the Carlton Club when he grabbed a woman from behind while she was ordering drinks at the bar. Security guards reviewed CCTV and the victim helped to ID Khan in the footage.
When police later asked Khan how his DNA ended up on women he didn’t know, he replied, “It surprises me. I don’t know what you want me to say. I’m collecting this information and I will speak to my family and my lawyer.”
Khan pleaded guilty to indecent assault and 3 counts of sexual touching. As part of his community based order, he will receive treatment so he doesn’t reoffend. The magistrate said she would have jailed Khan if he had priors. His record was clean. His wife is standing by him.
