In England we briefly had a chicken shortage at KFC and both Greater Manchester Police and the Metropolitan Police had to issue statements asking people to stop calling the emergency services about it.
England is also home to a government funded advertising campaign begging people to stop beating up ambulance drivers. This is not a nation equipped to even deal with a sudden slight disruption to its infrastructure, let alone its total collapse.
If I was a gambling man, my money would be on Cuba, a nation that has already had to learn to sustain itself cut-off from a global supply chain.
New Zealand. They would also survive. Those are the only two places.
It seems New Zealand also topped the researchers' list, so maybe they aren't wrong about everything.

"We are the sons of Horan, from its north to its south, from its east to its west, we are all Daraa al-Balad. If the decision is war, we are with her & if the decision is peace then we are with her also, & finally, we are with those that defend our dignity. And God is behind us."
This video is one of several released in the last 48 hours as a new uprising stirs in Daraa, an area that has effectively been under regime control since July 2018. english.alaraby.co.uk/news/syrian-re…
These men in Daraa are completely cut off from foreign support, have been abandoned by their allies & former leaders, have had Russian assurances violated repeatedly, are facing a brutal siege & bombing by the Assad regime, and yet, despite all this, they are still fighting.

The strategic aim of sanctions is not regime change. Retaliatory punitive economic measures don’t need to form a clandestine strategy to overthrow a dictatorship to be defended on human rights grounds. The only available alternatives to sanctions are war or impunity. Pick one.
Those are your three choices in Syria. War, impunity or economic sanctions. There is no magical fourth approach. The sanctions relief lobbyists like Sam Heller have chosen not only impunity, but also tacit support for regime military operations.
The pro-Assad lobby have chosen war AND impunity, while providing sweeping moral condemnation of those who have chosen sanctions. They attempt to obfuscate their desire to see the fall of Idlib in doublespeak, but their choice is as clear as day.

Oliver Eagleton published this in Novara Media today about the EHRC report, and it is quite remarkable for being factually wrong on quite literally every line. There's a reason no other media outlet would touch this garbage.
The report found failures throughout the period of investigation, Matthews and McNicol had both already left in 2018. The report found political interference from LOTO throughout the period of investigation, including clear cases where the leadership intervened to dismiss cases.
The revisionism is absurd. We literally have to pretend a Corbyn ally, who was *HEAD OF THE DISPUTES PANEL* didn't have to resign for trying to dismiss a case against *A HOLOCAUST DENIER*, to believe the lie that Matthews & McNicol were the real problem.

As an LGBT Muslim, all I feel right now over Batley and Spen is a crushing, hopeless sense of despair. This hell doesn’t end once the by-election is over and the cameras have gone home.
It’s hard enough being LGBT in this country without also dealing with aggression from within our own community. There are so very few of us out and open in public. This clown parade is ultimately putting the lives of young queer Muslims in danger.
I can’t see any silver linings here, even if Labour hold the seat. The hatred that is being stoked won’t even be visible to most of the country, but Gay Muslims will feel every painful moment of this. I am standing proud & in solidarity with my brothers and sisters today. 🏳️‍🌈❤️

It should come as no surprise to people that Aaron Bastani is trying to launder Galloway’s racism - that’s because Aaron Bastani agrees with Galloway on much of these issues, and he always has done. Galloway will find a home on the left for as long as Bastani does.
The fact that Bastani is still tolerated by his allies after multiple horrific statements on Syria, China, Iran, antisemitism etc is precisely why he is acting as a Galloway apologist now. He doesn’t care and knows nobody is going to do anything about it.
Every time war crimes apologism is tolerated on the left, this is the end result. When Bastani was putting out videos glorifying the mass murderer Qassem Soleimani nobody even cared, so don’t act surprised to see him whitewashing Galloway, his ideological ally on these issues.

I feel like if you’re a political journalist covering the Batley and Spen by-election with regards to George Galloway and the local Muslim community, it really is quite disgraceful to not mention his record of extremist genocidal anti-Muslim bigotry & war crimes revisionism.
It is simply not good enough to find a few of the most reactionary voices in the Muslim community campaigning for Galloway and hold them up as representative of the community’s feeling towards the current Labour leader while not interrogating Galloway’s dictator apologism.
George Galloway is a virulent antisemite and someone who has also repeatedly smeared Muslim communities under fire in countries like Syria and China as being terrorists. His position on Palestine is motivated by racial and religious hatred, not social justice.
