Canada Migration and taking the IELTS Test.

Short Thread.
Like I always say, not everyone should, have to, or need to go to Canada. But if you want and have to, then act fast, take the necessary steps and do it the legal way.

P.S: The more you wait, the more points you lose if you are going the express entry pathway.
So if you are planning to, it’s a good move and just like every worthwhile endeavor, there are some processes and requirements (IELTS inclusive) that you need to plan for.
Canada Express Entry:

STEP 1: Educational Credential Assessment (ECA)

First things first, you need to evaluate your degree(s) i.e. converting Nigeria University degree/MSc/OND to the Canadian Equivalent.

You can start the process by following this link: Wes.org
-Click on new applicants/get started
-Click on Apply Now
-Choose Canada for where you need your evaluation to be addressed
-Click on ECA application for IRCC, create an account, & follow the prompt.
-You will be issued a reference number that will be used to track your request.
Step 2: Write IELTS

You should write the IELTS 'General Training Exam'. You do not have to wait till you are done with WES before proceeding to this stage, it can be done concurrently.

But I usually advise you have at least started with WES before proceeding with IELTS.
Generally, the desired score for Express Entry, Federal Skilled Worker is 7778 & the Modules are as follows:

Speaking-7
Reading-7
Writing-7, &
Listening-8

You can book your IELTS here: ielts.ng

To prepare for IELTS, apart from the free resources from @ieltsng try one of these platforms.

Google these:

1. GlobalExam
2. IELTS Simon
3. IELTS Advantage
4. ielts-exam. net
5. IELTS Tutorials
6. IELTS Mentor
7. IELTS Liz
8. IELTS Buddy
9. Road to IELTS
10. IELTS up
Step 3:

Once Steps 1 & 2 are completed, then you are ready to create a profile on IRCC website to enter the EE pool of candidates.

Usually, a draw is done 2xe a month to pick the highest-ranking candidates. There hasn’t been an FSW draw since Covid but we suspect one soon.
The score you would need on an average is between 465 - 478. If your score falls between this category, you have a good shot at landing an ITA when a draw is done with that range of score.

Better to be ready and in the pool before the next draw. 🤞🏾
You can check your score here: tiny.cc/z4s1tz

Fill in a tentative IELTS score as 7778 as shown in “Step 2” for score projections.

P.S: Masters/MBA/Ph.D. would boost your score. So, in the case of a couple, the person with a higher degree can be the primary applicant.
You can also check how PNP works and what provinces in Canada are involved in the Provincial Nomination programs here: tiny.cc/c67msz

Getting a nomination from a province in Canada adds 600 to your score.
The Canada immigration process is a DIY process. However, if you need an RCIC (Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant) who is here in Canada to speak to, assess, guide and represent you by applying on your behalf, please reach out to the folks at @HumanSquadCA.

All the best.

Want to include a ‘Cover Letter’ on that job application but don’t know how to start?

Here's a step-by-step guide of how to complete a cover letter. Also, what it should and shouldn't entail.

Thread.
A cover letter should be a single page letter that you include with your job application. Thing is, you can always include one, unless the job ad clearly states not to.

Always remember to keep it short because it should be a summary and not your autobiography.
1. Follow The Rules of Formal Business Letters:

Your cover letter should include:

-Your Name
-Your Phone Number
-Your Email Address
-The date of the letter
-The name of the hiring manager and their title (if you know it)
-The name of the company you are applying to as well

Congratulations to students whose study visas to Canada have been approved & will be starting school this fall (September).

When you eventually land in Canada, some things to note:

- As a student, you are allowed to work 20 hours per week.
- If you don't drive, check bus schedule before going out.
- Aside from the busy cities like Toronto etc., buses run every 30 mins on weekdays & every 1hr on weekends.
- Before buying textbooks, check with Lecturers if okay with you borrowing from Library rather than owning.
- If you can't afford the school residence, you can rent very close to the school.
- It is cheaper to cook than to eat out.
- Sobeys is a high-end grocery store for students. Try others.
- Connect with students from the prior year for course tips.
- Ask questions a lot in class.
