It's like the writers of #Grownish didn't even talk to a Desi to write this scene where Vivek reveals to his Indian parents that he's a drug dealer and expelled. There is NOT enough hysterics and yelling here. The mother HUGGED him? Thapur, sandal to the head. Come on!
Not one South Asian name on the IMDB for this episode too. SMH
I 👏 will 👏 watch 👏 every 👏 single 👏 Desi 👏 character 👏 in 👏 American 👏 entertainment 👏 and 👏 critique 👏 them 👏 at 👏 high 👏 Desi 👏 standards👏 cuz 👏 we 👏 deserve👏 better, 👏 realistic 👏 storylines.
Guys - Vivek is played by a Philipino actor. So it's not even like the writers could turn to the actor for authenticity. Like, the whole shows premise is on dissection of race in college. If you can't come correct in casting and writing Desis, just don't.
Also, i don't do drugs. BUT do drug dealers really call themselves drug dealers to their parents? Wouldn't a more realistic sentence have been "I sell drugs to kids on campus" instead of, "Parents, I'm a drug dealer." Like is that the declarative sentence genZs make now?
