The FUTVE English Team of the Month|🗓 July 2021 - Thread|
UCV and Deportivo La Guaira dominate our XI with Daniel Sasso’s superb effect on UCV securing him our Manager of the Month award. Results from 01/08 were included for consideration. #futve
UCV had kept just one clean sheet before July, now they’ve kept five. Forero has been fantastic between the sticks, denying Lala, Metro, Mineros, and Monagas. Only group leaders Caracas have breached his net. Captain fantastic. #futve
Kaki is the perfect blend of style and substance in the Caracas defence and marked his July with 1 goal, 1 clean sheet, and two performances considered by InStat as in the best 25 of the week. He’s the 3° highest rated CB in the league. #futve
Pernía played 3 of La Guaira’s 4 games in July, each time being in the top 25 highest rated performers of the week (InStat). In those games, the Naranja kept two clean sheets and conceded just once, with the man from Turén vital. #futve
Aramburu turned 19 this month and celebrated by continuing to grow his pedigree. The versatile defender was an ever present in July, completing 4 lots of 90 minutes. His tactical versatility remains invaluable to head coach Farias. #futve
The defensive improvement since Sasso took charge is the starkest of his changes and whilst the personnel has changed Aponte’s place in it hasn’t – he was present for 3 of UCV’s 4 clean sheets in July. #futve
Injury may have cut Cova’s July short but he was sublime in the two games he did feature in, including netting a goal of the month contender in a 1-1 draw with Estudiantes. He was the highest rated CM (InStat) at the first stage mid point.
Frequently lining up in a 4-2-4 formation, Sasso expects a lot from his midfield engine and WC 2017 runner-up Luis Ruiz has been an undroppable component. From Aragua to Gran Valencia to UCV in consecutive seasons, he’s found a home here.
Farías’ talented squad was subject to a lot of rotation for the first 3 months of the season as they contended with Libertadores football. Their elimination has settled that and Cermeño, as the cream of the crop, has risen to the top.
Our Player of the Month, Infante was the creative force in an unfortunate loss to Caracas, the star of the show with a hattrick vs. Metro, and the catalyst for the comeback against Mineros. Atlético’s top scorer is in top form. #futve
The 32yo striker playing for his boyhood club is in the form of his life with 7 goals in 13 games. His best return came in 2019 with 11 goals in 31 games. He’s on course to better that with 3 goals in July. #futve
The Paraguayan was in the top 25 highest rated performers in 3 of the 4 game weeks Portuguesa had in July. His goals have revitalised Ali Cañas’ team after an underwhelming 2020. He scored in 3 of their 4 outings last month. #futve
In July, UCV kept an impressive 4 clean sheets in 5 games, only conceding to Caracas (2). Their 3-1-1 record earned 10 points as they climbed away from the group’s bottom. Sasso’s appointment will likely save them from relegation. 13/13

💫The FUTVE English 30: Our Top 30 Young Venezuelans for 2024💫
From the Champions League to budding brilliance in Brazil, here are our 30 starlets of Venezuelan football!
Criteria: born 01/01/2000 onwards and must have made their first team debut. We made one exception! 🙈⬇️
✒️ David Martinez (2006|AM)
👕 Monagas
⚽️ Liga FUTVE 🇻🇪
18 next month, it’s only a matter of time before Venezuela’s wonderkid gets a big move.
It was long thought Ajax was an all-but-done deal but he’s back on the market and surely still destined for a European move this year.
✒️ Kevin Kelsy (2004|ST)
👕 Shakhtar Donetsk
⚽️ Premier Liga 🇺🇦
His debut year in Europe ended with 9 goals and 3 assists in just 1065 minutes (1 g/a per 89’). He scored in the league, Champions League, and Europa League. The 193cm striker could be Rondon’s heir in waiting.
In 1970, Chelsea FC became the first – and to date only – professional English club to play in Venezuela.
They arrived just 4 days after lifting their first FA Cup, a 2-1 win over Leeds United in the replayed final at Old Trafford. Here’s the story.
🧵Thread Begins:
As stated on chelseafc.com, the team were in the Venezuelan capital for a “celebratory post-season tour”, which also included Barbados. The Blues were set to face Vitoria Setubal (🇵🇹) and Santos (🇧🇷) in the Torneo Gran Ciudad de Caracas, hosted at El Olímpico de la UCV.
With the tournament’s first game just 24 days before the start of the World Cup in Mexico, Santos were to play without their main attraction: Pelé.
It was a loss to Chelsea, but Pelé’s Santos had already played in Caracas in ‘59’ & ‘66, and he would return in ‘77 with NY Cosmos.
It’s an all capital affair as Metro host Caracas as both sides look to continue their strong seasons.
Caracas are looking for their second win, led by Akinyoola, while Metro could go third, one point off Táchira and La Guaira, with a win.
4’: GOOOOOOOOL! 🟣
Carlos Sosa opens the scoring with a bombastic long range strike! He outsmarts Baroja and finds the far corner to make it 1-0 to Metro. #FutVe
HT: An early Metro goal is all we get for the first half of today’s match in Caracas. Los rojos have chased an equalizer but it’s Metropolitanos that look the most in control.
Since 2020, the two sides have an even 2-2-2 record against each other. #FutVe
Lara started the month closer to relegation than Libertadores qualification. Two clean sheets and an unbeaten September has changed that entirely. Throughout, Curiel was superb, particularly against Carabobo and Aragua. #futve 2/13
Unbeaten in September (WDWD) with a goal and clean sheet to his name, the right back has been a key figure in the Barinas’ club ultra attacking and vertical football. He impressed strongly against Estudiantes and Zamora. #futve 3/13
It’s a battle for Barinas as Hermanos host Zamora with a 4th place finish and #Sudamericana football on the line.
A win or draw keeps Hermanos in 4th, but Zamora could leap into Hexagonal B contention with a win. #FutVe
7': No early goals as a greatly important match up takes place in Barinas tonight. A result for the home side could prove a huge moment for the newly promoted club. 0-0. #FutVe
15': GOOOOOOOOOOL! ⚽️
Richard Figueroa sneaks around the Hermanos' backline and taps in the opener to give Zamora the lead!
Zamora take 4th place, for now, and Hermanos are left with a lot on the line. 1-0. #FutVe
