Request to retire the word "gerontocracy" because it is stupid and also because it doesn't refer to an actual pernicious phenomenon
Like you're complaining about Clyburn and Pelosi and yet, right over there, you have the fascist youth taking over the GOP
And, within the Democratic party, there's not a real correlation between age & ideology. You've got plenty of progressive older people in the House, as well as moderate younger people. Most older Democratic members of the Senate are more progressive than Kyrsten Sinema.
In Western Europe, Holocaust denial is on the rise & far right movements get quite a bit of support from the white youth. The situation was actually better when older people who remembered fascism made up a more substantial proportion of the electorate.
In the U.S., white millennials vote slightly more Democratic than their elders, but it's hardly a stunning difference. Meanwhile, the relatively younger white members of the GOP are increasingly more authoritarian & conspiratorial than their elders in the Democratic party

Gingrich is referring to "the left," but this is an old white nationalistic trope that is frequently used against Jews. Hitler claimed Jewish people would lead an uprising of lesser races. The Tree of Life shooter used Jewish work w/ refugees as "justification" for mass murder
Many will just hear the racist, anti-immigrant message. Which is bad enough. Many others, especially those who are avowed white nationalists, will also hear the anti-semitic layer, because, again, "Jews will lead a race war" is endemic in their propoganda
The racial hierarchies employed by white supremacists are deeply disturbing. There are many who are categorized as subhuman & less intelligent. Jews are portrayed as subhuman & super intelligent. They are the ones who will lead the anti-Aryan movement. Newt evokes this trope

The solution to homelessness is to give a home to everyone who needs a home. The right to sleep with a roof over one's head and to not freeze to death should not be linked to income. And, no, shelters are not homes.
To those who are not persuaded by the moral arguments, I will say allowing homelessness is also inefficient. It blocks people from participating in the economy. It leads to negative impacts for kids, creating lifelong poverty. The state should be responsible for providing homes
I have the utmost respect for many who work in shelters and advocate to improve them. But the shelter model is still a poor one. There are reasons many homeless people choose not to stay in them. The only real solution to homelessness is giving people homes.

From what I can tell:
-We still don't know a lot about lambda
-Specific mutations of the spike protein are of concern
-The efficacy test has been done against CoronaVac, which is 60% effective against symptomatic COVID (less effective than Pfizer, Moderna, or J&J)
If I worked for the CDC, I would pour financial resources into genetic testing for every COVID case in the U.S. & work on employing the contact trace/isolate model. It's possible there are still so few cases of Lambda that contact tracing & isolation could have some effect.
That said, there are still a lot of unknowns about lambda, so people shouldn't jump to conclusions based on a single study. But, if there are mutations on the spike protein of concern, that also justifies spending a lot of time & money on suppressing lambda in the U.S.

Yes, it would be good for progressives to realize Dem voters like the Dem party. It would also be good for them to recognize the Dem party is not out to destroy their hopes & dreams. Biden's "Human Infrastructure" bill would be a huge step towards expanding the welfare state
Is the Democratic party *as a whole* more moderate than its most progressive wing? Yes. Because the party represents multiple people. Are most of them hostile to progressivism? No. The Senate Majority leader is for student loan forgiveness!
Here is the Senate Majority leader hugging two of the House's most progressive members and congratulating them for their work on the eviction moratorium. Do you see any hostility here?

I had a bad experience in rural PA today. I have kind of crazy hair naturally and am trying to grow out an unauthorized mullet so I usually wear it up. Today I wore it down and six conservative men mocked me for it ImageImage
We were leaving the establishment anyway, b/c this same group of men were saying vile things about transgender women. My friend was afraid I would start a fight, which may have happened before. So we left and then they said, “nice hair. Where are you from?” & started laughing
It was just like they hated me and wanted me to feel badly on a level related to me being a woman. It was awful.

When I was a teen, I was sexually harassed by a manager. I didn't know it was sexual harassment at the time, which is true for many people who find themselves in this situation. I'm happy teens have better access to info today. I hope we don't degrade that by defending offenders
Also remember that sexual harassment doesn't just affect the victim, tho that is bad enough. Many of my female co-workers hated me due to perceived differences attention. We were all pitted against each other

That was just in a bookstore! Think of this environment in gov't. . .
One of my coworkers went so far as to report me to my manager b/c she saw my underwear when I bent over. She even reported the color. I know this b/c my manager brought it up with me in a closed-door meeting where he was like, "so you wear turquoise underwear? tell me about it."
