A current TUC policy is:
'All trans identities should be believed and respected, and that FOR ALL SOCIAL PURPOSES, trans women should be treated as women and trans men treated as men'.
Always remember policies can be changed.

Let's think about what 'all social purposes' actually means for women. It means access to every area of life that was previously a preserve of women. This includes hospital wards, sports, prisons, health and social care, women's refuges, changing rooms and of course toilets.
2/7
What are the implications here? First, it places women at risk because we know the majority of assaults on females are carried out by males.
Second, it silences Female trade union members because a simple request for sex segregated spaces is deemed transphobic in TUC policy.
3/7
TUC policy is:
'continue work to counteract the transphobic myths being perpetuated, including the insidious myths that trans rights threaten women’s safety or equality'.
Arguing that the protected characteristics in the Equality Act are competing rights is not a myth. 4/7
If you're in a Union affiliated to the TUC this is likely your unions policy too. Do you agree that calling for female rights is abusive and were you consulted? If you're not an activist it's unlikely that your aware of the policy.
Women must act to keep existing rights.

If you want to discuss issues or about organising in your union, furthering women's rights and/or the liberation of women DM me.
Women fought for sex segregated spaces for good reason. We have a duty to preserve them. #unions

Unions are important political organisations and they are ours. Time to remind them that 3.7 million women pay their dues in the UK. #womenwontwheesht
