#Seahawks mock-game final thoughts: A THREAD ⬇️ Today was the first time we got a real look at Shane Waldron's new offense and there are plenty of nuggets of information to dissect. On the defensive side, there's more clarity on the line, especially on bear fronts.
On offense, we saw a ton of play-action and pre-snap movement, as expected. Much of the offense was set in 11/12 personnel with plenty of bootlegs similar to Rams offense with Goff. Wilson was sharp, tested tight windows, and looked to escape the pocket early on naked bootlegs.
While Wilson didn't target TEs much, Geno Smith made use of Colby Parkinson's large frame, especially over the middle. I expected to see more tight formations and tight end movement but most pre-snap motion was from WRs. A fair mix of under center vs gun for Wilson.
The tempo was huge as Wilson had noted for the past couple of weeks. Lots of no-huddle, and the offense was much quicker to snap the ball. Overall, it seemed really smooth in comparison to previous years. Interested to see how much of that will carry over into the regular season.
Side note: Alex Collins seemed quite explosive today and they seemed to like Penny Hart as their main motion guy. We didn't see any today but I imagine he and Eskridge will see plenty of jet sweeps later on in the season. Waldron also called 2 tunnel screens to WR Cade Johnson.
Offensive line: looked quite lackluster tbh, but that's expected with Duane Brown and Jamarco Jones sitting out. Forsythe had a couple good plays but as Carroll's press conference indicated, "he made it through the game". Certainly needs more prep and experience.
Defense!: Aldon Smith and Darrell Taylor seem to be the primary guys on the edge of the bear front. They also rotated Benson Mayowa, Rasheem Green, and Carlos Dunlap on the edges so they were really just testing guys all over the dline.
Darrell Taylor did drop back in coverage a few times as @mattyfbrown predicted he will play SAM and when he did, the Seahawks liked sending corner blitzes from the nickel spot with Ugo Amadi and Marquise Blair.
Witherspoon was making plays on the ball often, had a nice PBU on an out route, but I thought refs missed a pi on him on a deep ball. Tre Brown was physical within limits and made plays on the ball. All other defensive backs were quite normal, nothing special to note.
Clearly, there's still lots to be determined for the Seahawks but for us nerds out there, I think this was a really good look into the upcoming season. If you have any other questions, drop them down below. I'll also be publishing my full article in a couple days so stay tuned!
