Last few wks McConnell said if Dems want to lift the debt limit they must use reconciliation bc GOP won't vote for it
Yellen now says: use regular order
Which means no reconciliation
They have to use gov't funding bill
Which GOP will block if⬆️
Gov't shutdown?
This. Is. Bad.
Yellen today:
“In recent years Congress has addressed the debt limit through regular order, with broad bipartisan support. In fact, during the last administration, Democrats and Republicans came together to do their duty three times.
“Congress should do so again now by increasing or suspending the debt limit on a bipartisan basis. The vast majority of the debt subject to the debt limit was accrued prior to the Administration taking office.
"This is a shared responsibility, and I urge Congress to come together on a bipartisan basis as it has in the past to protect the full faith and credit of the United States.”
Nothing from Biden yet..

House Dem moderates sent yet another letter to Pelosi Tues, screaming for passage of BIF NOW rather than after reconciliation
So far, they've cowed to her
But now they're talking @ blocking budget res by voting against a floor debate rule..
Getting dicey?
punchbowl.news/wp-content/upl…
Per Punchbowl this am:
"The mods’ theory in bringing the infrastructure bill up now is that they want to strike while the iron is hot. As many as 20 House Republicans could vote for the infrastructure bill if Pelosi brings it up this month. If the House waits until the fall,
2/"it would almost certainly lose GOP support and could end up lumped into a big piece of legislation that moderates don’t want to support.

Per Punchbowl this am re debt ceiling:
"To the WH & some Dems, slapping it onto reconciliation was a political loser. The [WH] feared that adding the debt limit in reconciliation would’ve spooked House Dem moderates & given them a reason to vote against the upcoming budget res
⬇️
"There are some procedural tricks that the WH seems to think it has up its sleeve when it comes to reconciliation. We don’t fully understand what they think can be done, but we’ll dig more and figure it out.
⬇️
"Furthermore, Democrats can go back and amend the budget resolution to allow for the debt ceiling to be included and passed at a majority threshold. But that’s risky and will take some time, but it can be done.

Now Roberta Kaplan has resigned from Time's Up after being exposed for attempts to discredit one of Cuomo's alleged victims
Andrew's not going down alone..
nytimes.com/2021/08/09/nyr…
2/"Ms. Kaplan, the chairwoman of Time’s Up and the co-founder of its legal defense fund, was one of several prominent figures whom the report found to be involved in an effort to discredit one of Mr. Cuomo’s alleged victims,
3/"and she has continuing legal ties to a former Cuomo aide accused of leading that effort. “Unfortunately, recent events have made it clear that even our apparent allies in the fight to advance women can turn out to be abusers,”

I openly supported Cuomo's right to an investigation
The NY AG's report makes it clear that investigation has occurred
11 women
A "toxic & fearful environment"
(& much more)
Cuomo MUST resign
I'm betting he won't
NY will have to impeach him

His career is over
#CuomoMustResign
Per NYT:
"Ms. James said the report revealed “a deeply disturbing, yet clear picture” and “conduct that corrodes the very fabric and character of our state government and shines light on injustice that can be present at the highest levels of government.”
And his response:
".. Responding to the report from Albany shortly after its release, Mr. Cuomo reiterated his contention that he had never touched anyone inappropriately, declaring that “the facts are much different from what has been portrayed.”

On Donald Trump's worst week ever (so far):
Per NYT:
re DOJ's decision to release to Congress Donoghue's contemporaneous notes about Trump's call asking DOJ to "just say the election was corrupt & leave the rest to me & the R Congressmen"

Thread:
nytimes.com/2021/07/30/us/…
2/"..handing over the notes to Congress is part of a pattern of allowing scrutiny of Mr. Trump’s efforts to overturn the election. The Biden Justice Department also told Mr. Rosen, Mr. Donoghue and other former officials this week that they could provide unrestricted testimony
3/"to investigators with the House Oversight and Reform and the Senate Judiciary Committees.
The department reasoned that congressional investigators were examining potential wrongdoing by a sitting president, an extraordinary circumstance,

Really interesting that despite Trump twice publicly calling for GOP Senators to "abandon" the bipartisan infrastructure bill this week
SEVENTEEN of them voted yes on cloture last night
-including McConnell
Are they taking a position against him?
Or are they playing a game?
⬇️
Lot being said now @ Trump's "sour grapes" on infrastructure
But:
-with the news of DOJ NOT protecting Trump's Select Committee witnesses (& Brooks)
-his Tx runoff loss Tues
-and this (kinda) "anti" Trump vote on infra
Things could be said @ him losing his juice
We'll see
⬇️
And FYI:
GOP voting yes on bipart infra bill last night:
Blunt
Burr
Capito
Cassidy
Collins
Cramer
Crapo
Graham
Grassley
Hoeven
McConnell
Murkowski
Portman
Risch
Romney
Tillis
