The bipartisan infrastructure bill is good for South Carolina.
It provides much-needed help for our roads, bridges, ports, and expands broadband internet access.
I have always been supportive of infrastructure investment and wish we had passed this years ago.
This bill provides American infrastructure with a much-needed facelift.
South Carolina will receive $4.6 billion in highway funding, $274 million in bridge replacement and rehabilitation funding, and $70 million to assist in the deployment of electric vehicles and charging stations over the next five years.
The legislation includes the DRIVE-Safe Act, which I cosponsored, to help develop the next generation of American truck drivers.
The legislation includes the BuyAmerican.gov provision, which I cosponsored, which promotes easier access for South Carolina businesses to view and apply for government procurement contracts.

In case you were not paying attention to what’s happening on the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee:
They voted on and adopted a provision stripping commanders of all UCMJ authority regarding their command because Senator Gillibrand and others have accused the military justice system of being inherently racist.
The Secretary of State’s view of the world is that that the UN Human Rights Council should focus its attention on systemic racism in the United States. Among the member nations of the council are Cuba, China, Venezuela, and Russia.
The Biden Administration has completely lost focus on the problems that are raging throughout the world.
▶️The Chinese Communists are suppressing every form of religion, committing genocide against the Uighurs, and threatening their neighbors.
▶️ The Cuban people are being shot in the street for demanding basic freedoms.
I hope this threat is all bluster from left-wing New York politicians.
If such a disastrous move ever came about – banning a commercial business due to them exercising their First Amendment rights – it would set a horrible precedent.
It would also be ferociously opposed by many Members of Congress, including me.
When federal funds are shared with the states, it never entered my mind to look at the politics of the state on hot-button issues like marriage to determine whether they are eligible to receive federal funds.
President Biden may have set a deadline to end the war with al-Qaeda and ISIS in Afghanistan.
Unfortunately for us, al-Qaeda and ISIS don’t have deadlines when it comes to attacking American interests.
It is important to remember that President Biden’s Afghanistan decision to withdraw all forces was made against sound military advice – just like he and President Obama did in Iraq.
When asked about what efforts he would take to make sure China cooperated with an investigation regarding the origin of the coronavirus, President Biden reinforced the idea that China wants to be considered a normal country & they’re worried about their reputation with the world.
Again, President Biden doesn’t understand China. They could care less about what the world believes regarding their image. They care about the bottom line, which is protecting their self-interests.
It is very disturbing to hear President Biden suggest that it would hurt Putin’s standing if people throughout the world believed he interfered in our election or the elections of other nations.
It is clear to me that Putin could care less about how he’s viewed by others and, quite frankly, would enjoy the reputation of being able to successfully interfere in the internal matters of other countries.
Also, I believe Russia is proud of their efforts in interfering in our elections and will not stop until they’re made to do so.
