In today's thread we're tackling a question everyone is asking these days. Why on earth does Louis DeJoy still have a job as postmaster?

You'd assume the Biden administration could find a way to kick him to the curb by now, but it's more complicated than it seems.

(2) News that DeJoy's company just earned itself a big juicy contract from the USPS has everyone more than a little outraged.

It's clear that Republican members of the USPS board of governors seem to be milking the agency dry at the expense of taxpayers.

(3) Coupled with continued cutbacks on mail service and mounting delays, DeJoy still seems to be doing everything in his power to sink the USPS.

So why is he still in charge and what can we do about it?

(4) Dejoy is under investigation on several fronts right now. The FBI and North Carolina are investigating allegations he broke campaign finance laws.

Dejoy has been hauled in front of Congress several times over claims he's intentionally slowing mail.

(5) So why can't he just be fired? Corruption. Incompetence. That stupid smirk. Can't Dejoy be removed for SOMETHING.

Whelp LEGALLY Biden can only remove DeJoy "for cause." The ongoing investigations may provide that but we're not there yet.

(6) The Board of Governors could remove DeJoy but here we run into a different problem. Most of them seem reluctant to do so.

There is growing pressure as Dejoy's plan goes into effect this month raising postage rates and slowing 30% of USPS mail.

(7) Don't Democrats now have enough votes to oust Dejoy after Biden nominated three new members to the board? Sure. Except we have a DINO.

Ron Bloom.
And he LOVES Dejoy.
He's like the Manchin of the USPS Board of Governors.

(8) Chairman Bloom helps lead a private equity firm and they invest in infrastructure and stuff like toll roads. Color me suspicious that he might have his best intentions in his pocketbook and not in serving taxpayers.

(9) Bloom is also a Trump appointee which might not make sense when you realize he's a former Obama administration guy but Bloom is also buddies with Kushner. Word is Bloom has been quietly helping orchestrate DeJoy's plan to slow service.

(10) So barring any smoking guns in the open investigations against DeJoy, the first opportunity we'll have to oust him is when Republican John Barger's term expires in December.

Let's just hope Dejoy hasn't permanently damaged the USPS before then.

I know people like to compare requiring licensing or seatbelts on roadways to requiring masks.

But those comparisons don’t convey the crux of the problem.

If you crash without your seatbelt, the person who gets hurt by your negligence is you.

Not so with masks.

(2) Your refusal to wear a mask makes my mask less effective at preventing infection.

It would be like if your failure to wear a seatbelt exposed me to a greater risk of death.

I think the best metaphor for mask wearing if we want to talk motor vehicle laws is speeding.

(3) We have speed limits most places but especially in residential areas. Why?

We’ve decided slowing down prevents fatal accidents for everyone.

Your right to go the speed you want even if it’s risky is overridden by public safety.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but if your district won’t offer online school, there are a bunch of online charter schools that serve K-12 and essentially function as public schools in most states. They’re free of charge to you.

Now I’m not saying they’re a fantastic option. And you definitely need to be at home and be involved. But the curriculum closely follows state standards and it’s not as terrifying as homeschooling from scratch.

It’s a good short term solution for some.

Yes, I am well aware of the evils of charter schools and how I’m supporting the Republican agenda of undermining public schools but right now parents choices aren’t great.

It’s risk the lives of the people we love or compromise. Give us better choices and we’ll make them.

In today's thread we're taking a deeper dive into the Thomas Barrack indictment.

The charges against Trump's former best friend are much more serious than a little foreign lobbying. Even the public evidence of Barrack's involvement with the UAE is pretty conclusive

(2) What Barrack is being charged with isn't JUST acting as a foreign agent on behalf of the UAE. It's also that he obstructed justice and lied to investigators.

With Trump in the White House, US foreign policy was for sale and Barrack wanted a cut.

(3) By the time Trump stumbled into the presidency with Barrack as his inaugration campaign chair, Barrack was on shaky footing financially and was looking for a quick fix.

His position of influence with Trump was an easy ace in the hole.

In today's thread, we're addressing whether or not insurance companies can start hitting the unvaccinated where it hurts. In their wallet.

And the answer, as you might guess, is complicated.
As is everything about healthcare in this country.

(2) The healthcare costs of this pandemic have been catastrophic and that is probably going to translate into a rate hike, although perhaps not as much as you might expect.

But who should bear the burden of those costs?
Shouldn't it be the unvaccinated?

(3) That's a lot easier said than done. Certainly insurers might calculate that unvaccinated people are a greater risk, but it's likely since most Americans get their insurance through their employers that we'll all feel the brunt of those costs.

In today's thread, it seems like pundits who push anti-vaccination propaganda have often been vaccinated themselves.

This matters because low vaccination rates driving the current surge have one thing in common.
Trump voters.
