A thread for #RogdAwarenessDay:
1. Three years ago today, August 16, 2018, a scientific journal published Lisa Littman’s study of 256 parental reports of adolescents experiencing a phenomenon described by Littman as 'Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria’
journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…
2.Littman coined the term ROGD to describe the phenomenon of adolescents who having previously had no feelings of gender dysphoria suddenly felt extremely dysphoric and wished to transition.
3.Littman noted that ROGD could perhaps be a maladaptive social coping mechanism for other challenges, and often came about after extensive time spent online. Social contagion also seemed to be a factor
4.Littman’s paper attracted huge hostility from activists who denied the existence of ROGD & cried ‘transphobia’. Two weeks later, PLOS One announced a post-publication review; on the same day, Brown University retracted its promotion of the study retractionwatch.com/2018/08/29/rea…
5.The controversy grew until March 2019 when PLOS One concluded its review and concluded that: ‘Other than the addition of a few missing values in Table 13, the Results section is unchanged in the updated version of the article.’ journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…
6.Following the re-publication of this paper, Dr Littman issued a gracious statement: gdworkinggroup.org/2019/03/19/lit…
7.In June 2020, @AbigailShrier released her book Irreversible Damage based on Littman’s ROGD study. Shrier's book compassionately describes the challenges facing ROGD kids & their families. This too was attacked by activists. Again the truth prevailed
8.Littman's work was a descriptive study and, as Littman noted in her study, ROGD is "not a formal mental health diagnosis at this time". Nonetheless there have been further scurrilous attempts to undermine Littman's and Shrier's work sexologytoday.org/2021/08/caaps-…
9.Since the initial publication, the number of gender-distressed teens has continued to escalate. Organisations who purport to help people with gender-related distress continue to ignore Littman’s study, while teenagers and their families continue to suffer
10.Thousands of @Genspect parents describe how their children match the description of ROGD and yet their voices remain unheard. And so we at Genspect call on CAAPS, WPATH, AAP and others to listen to these loving parents, who just want the best treatment possible for their kids

@CanSG_org The 2nd panel, Chaired by Dr Louise Irvine will cover 'Safeguarding gender-questioning children & young people in healthcare and education'.
It begins with GIDs whistleblower Sonia Appleby.
#FirstDoNoHarm Image
Sonia Appleby references the seminal report by Robert Francis KC- Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Public Inquiry, as part of her talk on Safeguarding and the role of trusts and boards to be open to hearing the first hand accounts of patients and staff concerns. "Organisations can hit the target, but miss the point"

“Do we have to stick to penis & vagina norms? Can we have genitalia that looks like flowers or abstract sculpture? Can we have multiple? Can they be interchangeable?” -WPATH certified clinician Laura Jacobs, LCSW- WPATH SOC revision committee.
Credit: posted by @Jonnywsbell
@Jonnywsbell Maybe WPATH’s next “Standards of Care”will have a chapter on “abstract genitals”.

Seem far fetched? Remember, their current “Standards” introduced “eunuchs” who need their testicles removed.

It’s all “medically necessary” & “lifesaving” according to @wpath !

The #WPATHFiles Daily Disclosures: Surgeons discuss performing surgery on a 14-year-old kid. Their concerns are about being sued, dilation issues and what consent looks like. Marci Bowers, the President of WPATH, advises against it because the tissue is too immature. Image
They KNOW that consent is a murky area. In this clip, part of a different discussion, a WPATH member acknowledges kids' and parents' lack of understanding of the implications of these surgeries.
WPATH members should be discussing the ethics of operating on children who cannot give informed consent and whose parents do not understand the full implications of these procedures.

1/🔍📣 "The WPATH Files" have been released 📂: Leaked discussions from WPATH key figures. Find out what they really think about what’s happening in “gender medicine.”💡 Image
2/ WHO’S WHO IN THE WPATH FILES 🔍: Meet Dr Marci Bowers, a surgeon and the President of WPATH. Bowers has said that puberty blockers are “fully reversible.” But evidence suggests otherwise and Bowers knows this. 💥#WPATHFiles Image
3/ WHO’S WHO IN THE WPATH FILES 🔍: Dr Daniel Metzger, an endocrinologist, knows that talking to kids about fertility preservation is difficult because they don’t fully understand what they are giving up. Dr Metzger also knows that reproductive regret is common. 🤯 #WPATHFiles Image

2/ The World Professional Association of Transgender Health @wpath is considered the "global authority" on transgender health. In fact, @wpath is a reckless promoter of pseudoscientific hormonal & surgical experiments on children, adolescents & vulnerable adults. #WPATHFiles
3/ Let us be clear: What @wpath advocates for is MEDICAL MALPRACTICE. Its leading clinicians ignore medical ethics and do not obtain proper informed consent from their gender-distressed patients. #WPATHFiles
