Thread on @RashadWeaver's performance vs Atlanta, with some plays by other #Titans defenders throughout.
Starting with Weaver's first snap of the game: VERY strong setting the edge, with Teair Tart's instant penetration it allows David Long/Larrell Murchison to make the stop.
A few plays later. Weaver works the inside rush with a strong two-hand swipe. It's John Simon's coverage that forces McCarron to hold the ball long enough for Weaver to get the sack with that relentless motor.
Weaver ploughs through the right tackle into the fullback (who just tackles David Long, which should've been a hold) while the rest of the defense rallies for a big tackle-for-loss.
Nothing on the stat sheet, but a play created entirely by Weaver's disruption.
This one is interesting to me because Weaver slides inside to the 5T spot, showing his versatility. Applies some pressure by collapsing the pocket.
And how bout Kristian Fulton with sticky coverage on the outside and a nice PBU.
Weaver again gets pressure on the QB, this time hitting McCarron's arm and forcing the near-interception by Breon Borders (BTW, the ball did touch the ground, so as much as this play appeared to be a pick, it was actually ruled correctly)
Not sure what to make of this snap by Monty Rice. Nice job quickly diagnosing the play and firing into the backfield, but it looks a little too much like "training camp tackling" - wrap up!!
Illegal hands to the face penalty called on Weaver.
Here Weaver lines up at 3T and is used as the looper in this E-T stunt. A fine rush, but more than that, this is a good teaching moment on not losing contain against a mobile quarterback.
Excellent job diagnosing as the unblocked defender with backside contain. Uses his length and nearly comes away with a turnover here.
Probably Weaver's best play of the game, and a lesson to offensive coordinators about trying to block the #Titans powerful rookie with a tight end...
Again Weaver bowls into the backfield as the edge setter and forces a rally tackle-for-loss for the defense. Just destroying these poor reserve linemen.
And the final play I have to share, the broadcast didn't show. Very annoying. Weaver was credited with a full sack, but no replay and hardly anything shown the first time. Preseason problems 🤷♀️
Overall, a very impressive showing for the #Titans fourth-round pick in his debut!
