I co-hosted a roundtable last week and a guest texted their teenager during our convo:
guest: what do you think about NFTs
teen: what's an nft
guest: Do you wish you could sell your fortnite skins
teen: YES! I spent like $200 of my allowance money
2/ Couple things to note. Most of today's NFT activity isn't driven by youth. The focus on "NFT" will fade. NFTs are a means to an end. They enable a new primitive of the internet – ownership.
3/ Selling Fortnite skins is a no-brainer feature to end users. But, business models aside, there’s a lot of work to do before that becomes reality.
4/ Content will become the platform – owning, selling, renting, trading and creating content will be common primitives of all apps.
This will drive the largest monopoly-busting economic boom since the industrial revolution.
5/ Right now, there’s a 14yr old kid absolutely pissed that her in-game assets are illiquid. She’s hellbent on solving this atrocity.
It won’t be long before she stumbles on blockchain and NFTs and realizes she can create the reality she knows needs to exist.
6/ Everyone in crypto has known this for the years that this future is coming, but we're still very early.
Owning a digital sweatshirt that I can wear in all the places I spend time is an obvious feature that people want. But we aren't quite there yet.
7/ To @cdixon’s point – this is what it looks like to be building at the turning point of a technological surge.
We’re getting closer to connecting new internet primitives with the widespread use cases they enable.
8/ Respect to all the builders in the space today laying the groundwork for the next iteration of the internet.
We have the protocols, now let's build the outcomes.
