I wanna share some information that I learned after this AM's hate raid. #TwitchDoBetter

1. My chat's been in followers-only mode & the raid started seconds after "creatineoverdose" followed and posted a weird message in my chat (I'm assuming to see what they could send) 1/

This sad fuck has been seen around @Twitch talking about their handiwork as seen below. Others have reported seeing them follow and/or chat just before a hate raid began. I reported their account but not sure what impact it will have, frankly... 2/

2. Thanks to @stephneee_plz's video, my StreamDeck was set up to disable my alerts (I made a link in advance that didn't have follower alerts on it) & to change to my backup overlay w/o labels. I also changed to emote-only mode, but the bots adapted! 3/

Incidentally (and idk if anyone else has this issue) my Twitch commands from StreamDeck don't consistently work (it's up to date!) so I use @MixItUpApp to carry out the chat commands. Since they got around emote-only mode, I used 24hr follower-only mode to stop the bots 4/

Within 2 mins, everything was back to normal. After stream, I used @CommanderRoot's tool to remove the bot followers. twitch-tools.rootonline.de/follower_remov… - If you're using make sure to APPLY FILTERS FIRST before you remove the bots or else you'll clear your entire list 5/

This raid occurred despite my stream being in follower-only mode, automod filters, chat limited to those with verified emails, and me limiting raids to only people I know. I still need to update the multiactions on StreamDeck and I forgot to include a clear chat command. 6/

EVERY BLACK CREATOR I KNOW IS HAVING TO DO THINGS LIKE THIS TO PROTECT THEIR STREAMS ON @Twitch. And it fucking sucks. This is HOURS of work on top of everything else just to be able to interact with your community on Twitch. This is the cost of being a Black Twitch Streamer. 7/

It sucks even more b/c I finally reapplied for partnership for the 1st time in 6 months last week but it's hard to maintain your composure when this shit is looming on the horizon. I wish it wasn't stressful, but it really, truly is. 8/

Consider supporting the many who have put in a massive amount of unpaid work to draw attention to this issue and maintain tools to protect communities including @RekItRaven, @hackbolt_, and more. I am raising money to send their way b/c of the importance of what they're doing 10/

Finally, be understanding of the fact that we can't have our communities as open as we'd like to right now b/c of all of this and it is REALLY hard. If you can't raid us b/c of settings, please host us anyway b/c right now this is really rough & any support means a ton. TY! 11/
