But somewhere along the line, this remit was jettisoned. The report attributes this change in direction to the panel, arguing that ‘gender identity issues’ were inseparable from sexual orientation. communities-ni.gov.uk/system/files/p…
The reasons given for sexual orientation and gender identity being inseparable seem spurious and subjective.
'It was the view of the Panel that these issues are inseparable for a number of reasons.
• Many of the issues experienced across our communities are similar or connected
• Many trans people are gay, lesbian, bisexual or another minority sexual orientation.
• Trans people have always been present in the LGB+ community.'
The report is mostly focused on gender identity:
The following words appear in the executive summary:
Gender: 440 times
Trans: 259 times
Lesbian: 67 times (often lumped in with the LGBT etc)
Gay: 57 times (often lumped in with the LGBT etc)
The language used is based on gender ideology:
‘L is for Lesbian which means women who are attracted to women.’ Of course, they don’t define what a woman is.
'G is for Gay which means people who are attracted to the same sex.'
Gender is something ‘given when they are born’
The report also stands solidly behind a medicalisation pathway for gender non conforming children. One of its recommendations is:
'Gender affirming healthcare for all ages.'
And talking to children to help them feel comfortable in their bodies is 'conversion therapy.'
So it seems that the original remit has been abandoned, with instead a focus on gender ideology, which many LGB object to.
They object to it because:
There are conflicts between 'trans' rights and women's rights.
There are conflicts between gender ideology and some LGB people, who object to being defined as 'same gender attracted' (Stonewall) and who object to straight men defining themselves as lesbians and straight women defining themselves as gay men. This is appropriation.
There are conflicts between gender ideology and the need to protect children from being told they were born in the wrong body, which leads to children being seriously medicalised for life.
There are conflicts between gender ideology and women's safe spaces. Prisons, changing rooms, etc are now being mixed sex, with devastating consequences.
There are conflicts between gender ideology and women's sports and women's language.
Women and men who talk about any of these conflicts are name called and demonised. JK Rowling is an example.
