We are sad to say that today is @ConnerMitchell0's last full-time day with the Times. But we hope we'll get to work with him when he can find moments to spare, or when he just needs a break from his law school reading.
Throwback to our announcement! 🥲 1/
We knew before we launched that Conner was another journalism industry casualty heading to law school soon.
Too late to reverse course, but he's admitted that leaving isn't quite the no-brainer that it was a few months ago.
Part of our ongoing mission is to stop the bleed. 2/
Journalism is hemorrhaging talent, chewing people up and spitting them out. Bad management and greedy corporations are destroying local news.
We want to give journalists a happy place to work, thrive, and especially to pursue passion projects. 3/
We're thrilled that Conner had that opportunity.
In case you missed his 10-part (‼️) series, "Who Killed Nick Rice?" ... It's the product of months of hard work and careful research. It is so, so worth reading. 4/ lawrenceks.news/nr
In case there is any doubt, that kind of project — shining light into 50 years of darkness — is NOT something that a reporter at a traditional legacy media outlet could do.
Conner could, because we value it and because YOU value it. Thank you, readers and supporters. 5/
We'll have one more story from Conner tomorrow morning; the next one after that is uncertain right now.
But we'd bet the newzcats that Conner will keep pushing every chance he gets for people to support the Times (and indy local news near you). 6/ lawrenceks.news/support
.@ConnerMitchell0, we are so grateful for all you've done in just a few months with the Times. We know you're going to make a kickass lawyer, and we can't wait to see you wear that funny hat for law school graduation.
All our love to the newzpups. They are v v good newzpups. 7/
(And "we" don't handle goodbyes well, even if it's not ~really~ goodbye, so instead of responding to your Slack message, you get a heartfelt tweet thread. 8/)
Readers, keep an eye out, because we are so excited to introduce you to our ever-growing staff soon!
But today, please join us in congratulating Conner on work well done, and wishing him a future as bright as the flames we've lit in beginning to burn it all down. 🔥🔥🔥
