Hey, #VisibleWomen! I’m Amie, and I’ve been designing and encouraging comics for everyone for over 20 years. I’d like to remind you that there are plenty of fabulous hardworking and passionate women working to support comics.
There are women handling creator contracts and making sure they get their comps. There are women negotiating with paper manufacturers right now to try and get the paper to print that collection you’ve preordered actually gets to the printer.
There are women hiring new creators and encouraging established folks to reach out and do something new. There are women who read every word of everything we publish to make sure we don’t get sued.
There are women who manage our style guides. If you make toasters and want to make a Batman toaster, there’s a women at our company that will help you make it be the best Batman toaster ever, and will gently steer you away from your worst impulses.
There are women who tirelessly reach out to comic shop owners and booksellers and librarians and writers to make sure they see our offerings. There are women who lovingly craft our online presence.
#VisibleWomen are everywhere in comics. The writers and the artists and colorists and letterers are at the forefront, and I love every one of them. But let’s give a little bit of love to the folks that toil in the trenches. They make the world go ‘round.
