OK, here are some news from the combo practice, mostly days 2 and 3. I assume most of you watched Day 1 live, so you know most of the stuff, but maybe you missed out on Shodai getting grilled by Kasugano oyakata, who didn't like his weak butsukari and his chatter.
(1/15)
Shodai, having injured his arm in the practice, has since bowed out of the practice.
So on to other stories, start with Enho:
Contrary to day 1, his day 2 practice had better results.
He started with Makushita rikishi, then moved on to the Juryo moshi-ai, ending up with 7W2L, including some enthusiastic exchange of tsuki-oshi with Oho:
"I feel he is stronger than before. His style has also changed. I'd like to observe how he gets this big - food, training?" says Enho. He got a menu from a dietician, which helped him pass 100kg last basho, but he is 97kg again at the moment.
(5/15)
He eats a lot of carbohydrates and finishes with Amazake or tomato juice. Rather than forcing himself, he hopes that by eating properly and training properly, the weight will follow. Currently aiming at that 100 again.
(6/15)
Next up: Mitakeumi
He had only 5 bouts on day 1, but on day 2 did 15, including Takayasu and Ichinojo, ending 7W8L.
He was rather pleased, though. "I increased the number of matches."
Michinoku oyakata who was on coaching duty, said to him "If you practiced enough, you'd have been an Ozeki". Mitakeumi interpreted that as a great compliment "I was amazed that a former Ozeki would care enough to say that to someone like me".
(8/15)
This pushed him to put in more effort. In addition, Michinoku also gave him some coaching: He noticed Mitakeumi is weak when his mawashi gets caught, so he coached him in quick evasive action, as well as the proper way to move to cut the opponent's grip.
(9/15)
Mitakeumi: "Practice is a matter of will. And today I had energy".
Nevertheless, after day 2 he bowed out of the combo practice.
(10/15)
Next up: Ichinojo. He had 14 energetic matches with Mitakeumi et al. "The only way to practice with other sekitori right now is the combo practice, so I want to do the whole four days".
Terunofuji is his BFF since before high-school. Reacting to his Yokozuna promotion, Ichinojo said: "He's damn strong. Amazing. [I'll also] do my best."
He finished last basho 10-5. "My aim is to do my best and not drop down the banzuke".
(12/15)
And we finish the Day 2 news with Takayasu:
He had 10 bouts in the sekitori moshi-ai, and won all of them. When practice was over, he said "I felt like doing some more".
After finishing last basho 7-6-2: "It didn't go so well. I want to prepare my body, I have to find the way to do that in time for shonichi".
(14/15)
His aim for the combo practice: to practice with as many sekitori as possible, to gain proper sumo sense, and improve his strength at the same time. "That's the theme".
Nevertheless, he, too, bowed out after Day 2.

And another thread about Day 3 of the combo practice. Hakuho showed up. But with the departures of Shodai, Takayasu and Mitakeumi, he was the only member of the named ranks present.
He did not practice sumo, focusing instead on basic exercise. He also gave butsukari to Takanosho (Makuuchi/Tokiwayama beya) and Kaisho (Juryo/Asakayama beya).
(2/15)
Asked why he joined the practice on the third day, he said "I have yet to forge my body. It's not banzuke announcement day yet". About his injured knee: "One day it's better, one day less so".
More about the former Nishikijima oyakata, old Asashio (I'm thinking we had news today of both Asahisho and Asashio, don't mix them. Asahisho is a fun guy we can hope will stay in the NSK a long time, Asashio is the previous Takasago oyakata)
So as it turns out, the man has been going out to dinners with supporters, as if COVID didn't even exist. Moreover, he took Asanoyama and/or tsukebito with him. This went on since last July, about 2-3 times a week.
(2/6)
So his own violation of the regulations was partly during the time he was the heya's master (July through November).
When he heard about the Asanoyama story his first reaction was "What's the big deal?".
So here are this basho's words of wisdom from the YDC.
(Reminder: The YDC is an advisory body to the NSK, charged with preserving the heritage and dignity of Yokozuna.)
(1/10)
First item on the menu: Terunofuji. "There have been words of praise for him for making this comeback after falling to the abyss. He has captured the hearts of the fans".
So while we are enjoying (or despairing of) sumo, the tabloids are picking some more Asanoyama smut.
According to one of them, the reason Asanoyama came to admit his deed was not the fact that there were photos in the Bunshun article.
(1/6)
After some details didn't look right in his story, they re-questioned him, in the presence of a lawyer, who told him "If you are as innocent as you say, let us check your smartphone". So he let them. And there was location history there.
(2/6)
That matched the locations and times mentioned in the Bunshun article. At this point he went "sorry".
Jonokuchi - Fujiseiun and Suguru are fromthe same heya, so they are not matched against each other. Should both win tomorrow, there will be a playoff between them on senshuraku.
The Compliance committee and mainstream media may have filed the Shikihide scandal under "Move along, nothing to see here", but the story keeps rolling. The problem is - only on sensationalist rags, and outraged twitter accounts.
More stories leak. There is even this screenshot from the heya's LINE group, where the Okamisan informs that to protect against privacy violations, phone calls on the heya's line will be recorded.
(Maybe I'm not parsing this right, it sounds like a contradiction in terms)
(2/8)
There is also a story (grain of salt!) about a supporter party, in which a supporter's gift was misplaced, and the Okamisan had everybody present - rikishi, parents and tanimachi - strip searched, until it turned out the gift was just carelessly set aside.
