Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on the highest daily COVID-19 count today: It's not what we're doing wrong, but it's really the characteristic of the variant of concern of the virus. (1/2) bit.ly/3t1KOFF

Vergeire: It is because the higher transmissibility of this virus that's why our cases are increasing. (2/2)

Vergeire: Based on our projections, we really are expecting that (COVID-19) cases will continue to increase even in the coming weeks.

Vergeire says the country must keep the total severe and critical COVID-19 cases below 2% so the national healthcare system will not collapse.

Vergeire says their projection of 152,000 active COVID-19 cases by end of Sept. will not be met if people will get vaccinated and improve tracing and testing efforts in localities.

Vergeire: Most of severe COVID-19 cases are those who are not yet vaccinated.
