Line for a #CarolinaTogether covid-19 test this morning. Easily 40+ people ahead of me. The center opened at 9am today - timing how long it takes me to get through.
I’m in the Walk-In line. There is a separate reservation line which is moving quicker than our line. My experience in the spring testing program was that reservations did not matter usually as we were all in one line which moved pretty quickly.
The only Carolina Together testing site is at the Carolina Union this semester. The spring had three sites but testing was mandatory the entire semester even past vaccination.
Line now stretching past the Union cubes down to the student stores. Heard a worker recommend coming back later for testing if you can’t wait.
Checked the reservations to see if anyone currently in line could move quicker and the best available is at 3:30pm. Plenty of reservations available tomorrow so far.
7 people currently ahead of me in the walk in line - I’ve been waiting for more than 15 minutes - in the spring I could usually get in and out in under 5 min
Just finished - took me 23 minutes 17 seconds from start to finish. The line is longer now than when I joined. #UNC students I would allow for at least 20 minutes of wait time.
Inside there are 16 stations. The actual testing process is pretty quick. They scan your barcode and give you a label. You go to your assigned station do the nose swab and it’s very easy. Waiting in line is rough though - especially in the August heat.
I was on campus early because our house carpool had 10am classes and I don’t have class til 12:30. I had time to wait but I can imagine people could be deterred from wanting to wait in line.
I’m curious if wait time on Mondays will be longer especially because of the lack of free weekend testing.

May try and get another test later in the week to see if this theory is correct.
Also important to note the Carolina Union testing site is for asymptomatic testing. If you are symptomatic or know you were exposed to someone with COVID-19 you are asked to be tested at Campus Health.

sign on door of testing entrance - wondering how easily this can be enforced
The Carolina Together website says we should get results within 48 hours. I’ve seen some people say they got theirs back within 12 hours of their test. I’ll update when I get my result back.
Planning to time another COVID-19 test through the Walk-In line on Wednesday around the same time to see if it’ll be a 20+ minute wait or if Mondays are just particularly lengthy.
Line is currently much shorter now and weaving through a queue line on the side of Davis. The next class change is at 12:05 so there might be an afternoon rush then
Suspicions appear correct counted 25+ in walk in line and more are joining the line
Lines now past where I started out for my test this morning - anyone past the blue emergency siren should expect at least a 20 min wait if the afternoon pace is consistent with the morning pace
Reminder: testing is only required for unvaccinated students (2x a week). Unvaccinated staff joins Sep 15.

All other students and staff can voluntarily complete tests.

Re COVID-19 clusters at UNC: My understanding is a cluster is only a cluster if they are all related to the same event i.e. the pharmacy school event or five people attending the same party

5+ cases on the same floor is not a cluster unless they are all from the same event
This could explain why we’re seeing less housing clusters but still a plethora of cases on campus. If I’m understanding this incorrectly please let me know.
