Mohammed Mithaiwala was the most loved sweet meat vendor of Agra in late 17th Century. He dedicated the delicious pure ghee sweet to Badshah Akbar. Impressed by the heavenly taste, Akbar the Great named it after the maker. He called it Moh-i-Sura Pak or "Pure Step of Mohammed".
Moh was Mohammed shortened. Sura stands for step because when decked together, the sweet resembles steps. Pak means pure, representing pure ghee. People mistakenly started calling it Mysur Pak after Tippu Sultan of Mysur popularized it in South India.
Mohammed Ali Jinnah was extremely fond of Moh-i-sura Pak. Hence he called his country Pakistan.
