We often promote inspirational scientists, artists, sports people etc in primary school. Remember to promote inspirational geographers as well!
@geoteachrach has an excellent shared resource pinned to her profile which can help with this. I also love using Earth Heroes. ImageImage
If you are new to the subject, I recommend a resource audit. Ensure atlases are up to date. I recommend getting a class set of inflatable globes as well if you don't have them already!
If possible, try and ensure that classes have access to books with geographical themes and atlases in book corners and when reading for pleasure. I started a thread with some suggestions last summer.
I recommend this often to geography teachers and leaders. Chimamanda shares her thoughts about if we hear only a single story about another person or country, we risk a critical misunderstanding. This is a vital consideration for all geography teaching.
