Florida's fight over requiring masks in classrooms reached a whole new level this week.

A quick timeline, ICYMI 🧵
➡️ In late July, the CDC recommended all K-12 students wear masks when they return to class in the fall.

➡️ That week, Gov. Ron DeSantis banned Florida schools from mandating masks, arguing parents should be free to decide whether their kids wear masks.
➡️ As Covid cases continued to rise, some Florida schools rebelled against the governor and implemented mask mandates anyway.

➡️ Last week a judge ruled DeSantis doesn't have the authority to punish schools for requiring masks.
➡️ Despite that ruling, this week Florida's education department leveled its first sanctions by withholding monthly salaries from school board members who support mask requirements.
