Am I the only one who finds the constant invocation of European strategic autonomy to be tiresome? I’m all for it if Europe becomes more capable of protecting and projecting its interests. But so far this has been 90pc rhetoric and cocktail party fodder.
The real issue is that the vast number of Europeans just don’t perceive any threat and hence don’t want to invest in protecting themselves. Poll after poll show majorities in many member states wouldn’t even come to the Defense of another in case of attack eg by Russia.
