Kah Vern spent some time with us as an intern - he has taught me a lot about being a good employer. This is his account.

If you would like to intern with us, do send your CV & covering email to michelle.dunsubangjaya@gmail.com.
"Despite being a fresh SPM graduate, I was blessed to be given the opportunity to intern with YB Michelle's office from December 2020 to February 2021. During those 2.5 months, I got a glimpse into policymaking at the state level.
Most importantly, I learned the values of community and service. I went in expecting to learn skills (which I did!), but I left with many other unexpected things: community, values and a different outlook on life.
Being given the opportunity to handle the laptop distribution program was one of the most fulfilling parts of my internship.
It was a tedious but fulfilling task involving collecting names, vetting based on need, collecting used laptops from donors, sending the laptops to volunteer refurbishers and finally, delivering the refurbished laptops to students in need.
It was inspiring to me because this was an entirely community-based initiative that relied on donors and volunteer refurbishers - the true spirit of #KitaJagaKita.
When the 2nd MCO and darurat was announced in January, although the office was closed, the work continued, if not increased significantly.
Having to hand-deliver the SMUE vouchers door-to-door meant a lot of route planning, coordination and organisation. Even after we were done, there was lots of food aid to be distributed and this was definitely the most physically demanding part of the internship.
Despite the many challenges of the job, I always felt supported by the office staff and fellow interns who I've learned a lot from. The office was always vibrant, relaxed and productive - a very healthy learning and growing environment.
There was a strong emphasis on self-improvement, growth and forgiveness - represented best by Ben's famous quote "don't be sorry, be better".
Even after my internship, I continue to volunteer for the Subang Jaya community through events such as COVID-19 mass and targeted screenings, sanitization exercises and sending the elderly to their vaccination appointments.
I developed a sense of duty and service to others which the internship instilled in me.
I really appreciate being given this learning opportunity that I treasure up to this day. Time flies at the office because we're always having fun while working.Thank you to everyone in the office: YB, Ben, Henry, Cecelia, Siti, Beula; &my intern besties: YJ, Shaun, Nafiz& Erwina

When people around you have the right heart, the team stays the course naturally in the right direction. It does not matter the time of day or how hard the job. They rally around you to get it done. Because they care, they care for people.
Joseph, Henry, Barani, Jude, Chris, YJ, Uncle Mathie, Alvin - this goes out to each of you. For immediately laying down the plans you had for the rest of the day, moving and fixing tanks + stands late at night,
for turning up early in the morning, advocating for each water tank trip for residents with Air Selangor, soothing every angry nerve, carrying every pail, ringing every door to make sure we miss no one, walking kilometers throughout the day...

I write this having only slept at 7.45am in the morning.

The day before at about 10.30pm, I got an urgent call from a resident who lives in one of Subang’s low cost flat.
“YB. Maaf ganggu. Minta bantu. Ada seorang penduduk sesak nafas, muntah-muntah. Kata nak mati. Tak tahu nak buat apa. Dah tunggu ambulans dari 999 sejak 6 petang masih tak muncul. Tolong. 999 mintakan kami hantar sendiri.
999 pun kata mereka lumpuh dan kes ini bukan satu-satunya kes sesak nafas. Katanya kes dari pagi masih belum selesai lagi dan masih ada 7 orang tunggu dalam senarai.”

Today is a historic day for the Guan Di Temple. Lot 37559, which is beside the existing site, has been gazetted as temple land, and to be managed by Persatuan Pengurusan Rumah Berhala Guan-Di. The temple held a simple gazette handover ceremony today. Image
I am grateful for the guidance and support of YB @hannahyeoh, YB @ngszehan, YB Dato @tengchangkhim and YB @WongChenPKR, as well as our Councillors, without which we would not be able to witness today.
The temple, which sees devotees from Subang Jaya, Sunway, Puchong and PJ serves a key religious purpose. The additional space means more room to conduct prayers and programmes.

The Selangor State Budget was tabled today. Overall, am satisfied with its direction. A few points worth noting below. (NB: I am only picking up a few points. This is by no means a representation of the full budget speech, which was 2.5 hours long.)
Covid-19 has forced Selangor to focus on jobs. The initiatives introduced to that end are:-
• Selangor Innovation Fund which focuses on providing venture capital for selected startups
• A target to create 10,000 jobs for fresh grads through reskilling, upskilling, newskilling and job placement
• Inisiatif Selangor Automotif TVET. Job placement for TVET fresh grads in the automotive industry. The industry will be incentivised thru a 12 month EPF contribution

Sebelum bulan Oktober berakhir, sempat juga saya memakai warna merah jambu bersempena dengan Pinktober, iaitu usaha untuk meningkatkan kesedaran berkenaan kanser payudara. Image

Sila melayari pautan berikut untuk maklumat lanjut skw.yawas.my/web/permohonan…
