Here's a #PitMadStats update on AGENT/INDUSTRY likes by GENRE. 🎉🤓
There are so many ways to look at this, but I chose 3.
1. I counted the tweets with the tag and with industry likes, then ranked by % of likes. 2. Same, but with agents. 3. I'll explain more when I get there.
First, we have industry. I chose to rank by % so we can see how much demand there is for a genre in the industry relative to authors pitching in that genre.
While Fantasy has the most likes (by far), it's really competitive (lots of pitches) and ranks low by %.
Romantic categories tie up 7 slots in the top 10. There is an overwhelming demand for romance relative to the authors pitching romance. 🥰
To help you interpret these results, a third (33%) of all pitches with an R tag received likes. 😲
(If I may, gag me with a spoon. 🤢😂)
If we look only at AGENTS, we get a slightly different picture. There's still a strong romance interest, but the top 10 becomes more refined (Literary Fiction, Women's Lit), and the rise of the Graphic Novel.
Most notably, Hist Romance performed very well with agents: 20% liked!
For my last Metric, I decided to gauge how much of the industry interest was actually driven by agents. Agents may be interested in a genre more than small pubs for various reasons.
But one of them may be because the genre is trending, and they are ahead of the market. 🙌🙃
This last one is up for interpretation, but I found it interesting. Feel free to discuss your thoughts in the comments. I look forward to learning your insights.
I will share more on AGE and DIVERSITY later.
