GUN AT SOCCER GAME UPDATE:

A man brought out a rifle during a youth soccer game in SLC on Saturday. This led to a scary situation with many players/families running away in fear.

No shots fired, the man has not been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

Thread. @KUTV2News
Police say it appears to have started as an argument between parents.

They have confirmed the man had a rifle, but are still investigating exactly how it was used.

They didn’t want to speculate about if this is something one could face charges for.

@KUTV2News
SLCPD say there are incorrect rumors about their response time.

They say it took 19 minutes from when the 911 call came in, to when the person was detained.

They did not receive reports of injuries at the scene, but an adult in the fight had a bloody nose.

@KUTV2News
I would like to speak with anyone who was actually there as this unfolded.

If you wouldn’t mind talking with me, please reach out at klvaughen@sbgtv.com

@KUTV2News
NEW: Police asking for video/pictures of the incident.

They have conflicting reports about what happened/how the gun came into play.

Those details matter when it comes to if the person could be charged or not.

If you have videos/pics please send them to me too :) @KUTV2News
INFO FROM SOCCER PARENT:

“People had come across the field and they were screaming active shooter, there’s a gun, run. It just turned into total chaos right in the middle of the game.”

Joni Edwards didn’t see the actual gun, but panic spread fast.

@KUTV2News
Word of a gun at the field spread fast. Spectators/players ran to the fences, trying to get over into the neighborhood next door.

Players helped little kids separated from their parents over the fence.

Residents opened their doors for people to hide inside.

@KUTV2News
The director of one of the soccer clubs tells me as word spread about the man with a gun, other parents/spectators went to their cars and started pulling out their own guns.

He says the panic was real. He/other coaches put any kids they could into cars to protect them @KUTV2News
INFO FROM LAWYER:

“To me it’s all about where the weapon is, how it's being held, how it’s being used.”

-Nathan Crane, lawyer

Legally it could also depend if the rifle was strapped on his back, or in his hand.

@KUTV2News
Police say there are conflicting stories about how the gun was seen.

No arrests have been made.

"That doesn't mean that one won't be made, it's just we have to put all the pieces to the puzzle together to make sure that we're conducting a thorough investigation.”

@KUTV2News
Full report on soccer/gun situation at 6pm.

Hear from witnesses about how they jumped fences and hid inside strangers' homes.

Hear from police about the conflicting reports they have, and why no arrest.

Hear from a lawyer about what could/couldn't be criminal

This is there 2nd search and rescue there this month.

The trail is for very skilled hikers, just “being in shape” is not enough.

@KUTV2News
The WURL trail is the Wasatch Ultimate Ridge Linkup.

AllTrails says it is 32.2 miles and is only recommended for very experienced adventurers.
