Featuring @MohnishPabrai, latest episode of OutsideVoices podcast has just been released: "Cloning, Learning from Charlie Munger, 100 Baggers". outsidelens.com/mohnish-pabrai…
on education: "I'm very grateful that it was just dumb luck that I was in a home where I had all these business school lessons going on before I was 14 or 15. I felt like, when I finished high school, I had finished many MBAs."
on China vs US tech: "the interesting thing that's happened with Chinese tech is the cloners have now become better than the companies they cloned. So now what's happened is Facebook is trying to clone Tencent."
on Seattle innovation: "everything Microsoft has been successful at has been cloned. Amazon is a very different animal, Bezos's specialty is that he throws alot of stuff against the wall, and he knows that most of it will fail. "
on cloning: "one of the things I forced myself to do when I see someone doing something smart, even if its not in my industry, but it applies to what I am doing, I'm going to force myself to copy that."

Like my previous podcast guests @bfeld and @RobertCialdini , @MohnishPabrai has learned lots from Charlie Munger.
He told me its very important to have someone to talk to about your investments. Charlie encouraged me to find people. Its very important that the relationship is a peer relationship. Sometimes its @Guyspier. That was a good thing to clone from Munger.
Every time you stumble, you learn so much, and each stumble is going to make you better. And one thing Charlie taught me: you want to learn from your mistakes, but you dont want to learn too much. Avoid going down rabbit holes that are not productive.

What do Sam Walton, Stelios Haji-Ioannou, past guest @SaharHashemiOBE and this weeks guest @MohnishPabrai all have in common?
They are all cloners: their success is based on lifting and shifting ideas that work from one market to another.
#Walmart founder Sam Walton wrote "most everything I've done I've copied from someone else."
