Please note:
This pandemic has been hard for most of us, however important to remember that generally global pandemics are rare, and everything is heightened by social media and mass communication which isn’t helping 1/n
Currently, we’re in situation where: 1. Sars-Cov-2 is really infectious. 2. C-19 [disease] is unpredictable.
3 Differs from other viruses as there is an asymptomatic period where people can still spread it. 2/n
4. Up to 30% maintain a symptom for over a year after clearing the virus- Long COVID. Long COVID is unpredictable, affects young and older and can substantially reduce quality of life.
Main reason 💉 feels forced is because newer variants are getting more transmissible and 3/n
we’re seeing increasing numbers of kids affected.
Don’t forget, the part of your immune system that makes memory responses (T cells and antibodies) is specific. 4/n
You have 2 options for getting these Spike-protein specific responses that stay in your system and help you fight the virus if you're exposed:
Option 1: Infection with the virus which has 29 proteins (+ is not ideal due to reasons listed above) 5/n
Option 2: Getting vaccinated so you can show your immune system 1 protein (the spike protein) at a specific dose (so if you're exposed to the virus with spike protein on it's surface your immune system is ready for it) 6/n

*Thread* Have had friends and family ask about the intranasal or oral COVID vaccines currently in development (vaccine in pill or spray form!). Here’s an overview🧵
All COVID vaccines currently authorized for use are delivered by injection. While these are highly effective, mucosal delivery of vaccines would be ideal due to:
- Ease for self-administration (easy to take a pill or sniff a spray)—do not need to be administered by a medical
professional and can be sent directly to people’s homes or hard-to-reach areas where individuals can be given the vaccine to take themselves.
- Ease of distribution compared to injection-based therapies
- May not need refrigeration making it easier to ship and store
