My Norm Macdonald story:
On May 12, 2015, I received a note from someone requesting that I contact Norm regarding help he was seeking. I was given his contact info, so I emailed him and asked what he was looking for. He wrote back:
"Thanks, Don. All I am looking for is Dave's stand-up jokes, before he was a talk-show host."

So I sent him some audio files from Dave's radio days.
Two days later, May 14, Norm performed his last stand-up for Dave (taped this day, aired the next). He ended it by retelling an old Dave joke he says he heard growing up while watching him on Canadian TV.
It wasn't among the audio files I had sent him. He had evidently reached out to others besides me for help, and chose what someone else had sent him.
So his entire setup to retelling an old Dave joke was completely made up. He hadn't heard it while growing up in Canada; he had acquired it a couple days before his stand-up from someone else whose help he had requested.
The following morning I contacted him again, praising his performance. Norm replied:

"Thanks, Don, for the kind words. Also, thank you for the stuff you sent me. Fascinating. Reminded me of Bob and Ray. Where do you live, Don?"
I responded; and our conversation ended.

A couple years later, in late July 2017, I wrote to Norm again, soon after his online interview with Dave. I talked about Dave's wordplay, specifically his running jokes on "Words you'll never find in the Bible."
Norm responded:
"Another running joke I remember him doing in the monologue was introducing stars and their wives from the audience. Two I recall: Ladies and gentlemen, with us tonight Mr. and NRA. Abolhassom Bani-Sadr. Give a hand to the Bani-Sadrs folks.
"And: folks, I couldn't be more proud. Here with us tonight Bo Diddly and his lovely wife. Give a hand to the Diddlys."

He kinda got that Diddly joke wrong; it was Jane Pauley in a Cold Open, seen here.
But no matter; just conversing with Norm was a privilege. And after I uploaded all of his Dave appearances in a five-part compilation, he followed me on the Twitter.

What a talent. (/end)

Another long-winded thread!

I'm preparing something that'll mean extremely little to the vast majority on the planet, but hopefully a lot to a very select few:
The comedy team of Tom Patchett and Jay Tarses.
Jay had grown up in Baltimore. He was related to one of my mom's closest friends, which led her to babysat him in the '40s. By the mid-'60s, Jay and Tom had been performing regularly at The Cellar Door in D.C.
It was around this time when the two of them played me a reel-to-reel recording of one of their sets.

They appeared on a few talk shows, and I recorded some of them off the air onto my own reel-to-reels.

My pal @AdamNedeff is _the_ world authority on game shows. Today he posted on FB what makes his "hobby" worth it: A contestant from "The Price Is Right" contacted him for a show she was on in 1959. He, of course, had and sent it.
It was the first time she'd seen it in 61 years.

Adam then asked if I had any favorite requests from DaveWorld, and that was the biggest mistake he made today. My response:
There's one that wasn't even a request.

Claudia Costa, baton-twirling champ. She had been bumped. On her 2nd visit there was no time left, so Dave invited her on in the show's closing segment, apologized for the too-brief time allotted to her.
