Watched #Help last night. Went to bed in a rage. Woke up in a rage. Wish they had used a scene of Johnson Sunak Hancock clapping their little hands for carers while the reality was killing people and letting people down. Jodie Comer and @StephenGraham73 superb 1/3
But my God when Hancock’s disembodied voice comes on boasting about putting their arms around care homes you’ll want to scream. Their decade long austerity and their Covid incompetence killed people. It’s why they will make sure no public inquiry for ages 2/3
It’s why we should be grateful to writers and actors and directors and researchers - and to @Channel4 for showing it - because Help got a lot closer to the truth than the millions of hours of news has ever done. Do not miss it #catchup 3/3

My video/q+ a on the tragedy in Afghanistan. Feels even worse a day after Taliban triumph. We have utterly betrayed the Afghans and will feel the consequences for years to come. US must shoulder much of responsibility but UK government response pitiful instagram.com/tv/CSoagTlgPEs… 1/4
There are decent Tories and @RoryStewartUK @JohnnyMercerUK @TomTugendhat been excellent Likewise @DanJarvisMP who like JM and TT has served there. The tragedy is the strong and intelligent voices are outside government. Never forget that as Foreign Secretary @BorisJohnson 2/4
went to Kabul not because he cared about Afghanistan but to avoid a Commons vote on the Heathrow runway he said would be built over his dead body. All a game. All about power. No caring about the impact of his politics and decisions on real people. 3/4

Hard to hear statements of US and UK governments w/o thinking despite words to the contrary they are indeed turning their backs on Afghanistan. Did Johnson meeting decide anything other than to say ‘no military solution?’ Tho that may be true, there are so many challenges 1/4
in which we can/must play a role. Humanitarian most immediate - I fear we will soon see exposed the total folly of abolishing DFID. Helping support and if need be evacuate not just Brits but Afghans who have been helping. Pressure on Pakistan over support in parts 🇵🇰 system 2/4
Dispiriting to learn that at NATO summit, ‘small’ countries raised the issue of Afghans who had supported NATO forces, ‘big’ countries rolled eyes. Biden always been sceptic re nation building and felt counter terrorism the right strategy. Danger is we lose that too. 3/4

Having as PM an inveterate liar is beginning to impact in the public and political debate. Most of the media/Parliament have ignored/normalised his lying. But it matters and thanks to @PeterStefanovi2 @OborneTweets a few others and now @DawnButlerBrent the theme is set 1/4 Image
I think his lying was a bigger factor than recognised in Chesham by-election. It is a factor in his recent fall in polls. It is a huge factor in our dealings with the world for which we are already paying a heavy price. It reminds people of the lies that won Brexit2/4
His Covid pilot scam - which was entirely his idea btw (sources!) - underlined what a selfish and amoral person he is. The chaos that is his stock in trade matters as it is the cause of the mess that the United Pingdom of Great Bullshit and Brexit Lieland has become 3/4

Nice piece of spin from @GBNEWS that their plunge to irrelevance and zero-viewership happened because a bloke took the knee on air when in truth it was doomed to fail because it was based on a fake media construct of wokery, and the belief in their own propaganda 1/4
about how out of touch everyone else was with the public. Splendid irony that their big thing was free speech but @afneil is cancelling like it has gone out of fashion and @Guto_Harri punished for, er, expressing his view. The free speech debate is another right wing construct2/4
I have never once felt unable to say what I think. Those who claim they are silenced tend to be people who really think we ought to be able to say whatever racist, sexist, homophobic thought comes into our head. There are some good people involved in @GBNEWS and I wasn’t a fan3/4

Thanks @GMB team for looking after me this week. Been years in media world but impressed by just how much is going on in background and how you keep it all running so smoothly. Highlights today varied from @kategarraway wig to Geoff Hurst urging 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 fans not to boo 🇮🇹 anthem 1/4 Image
From @Peter_Shilton saying footballers were softer these days to Terry Butcher blaming him for getting the blood on his shirt in 1989. Loved meeting @KatiePrice and getting lessons in plastic surgery (no thanks) and @StephenMulhern was all the fun I was told he would be! 2/4
Found myself part agreeing with both @darrylmorris and @gordonsmart on Bank Holiday issue. Great point Darryl Re the flag being reclaimed from far right. Also hope MPs noted the commitment from @grantshapps that THERE WILL BE A PUBLIC INQUIRY INTO COVID PRE ELECTION 3/4

Many thanks for all the messages Re @gmb - I took @adilray advice and didn’t look at social media once while on air. Looking now at the usual mix of love and hate but with a few of the haters converted I would say! It flew by! A lot more going on than you realise when a guest 1/4
Felt I was in the hands of real pros though, which always helps. Enjoyed seeing @MaxGeorge a decade after our scrap and he will be a big boost to the mental health advocacy cause. And it meant pictures of Turf Moor to go with my Sean Dyche cast-off tie ahead of Fulham tonight 2/4
I could maybe have gone a bit harder on @NadineDorries in #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek as I really do worry about the state of our mental health services but I had @schooltruth in my head saying ‘stay calm and don’t rant!’ And to be fair Nadine did come on when plenty wouldn’t. 3/4
