GoodLife Fitness and MOVATI Athletic say that in order to expedite entry, they will only check members’ vaccination status once. They will then keep a record of the check on file so patrons don’t have to verify their vaccine status every time they enter. thestar.com/business/2021/…
Ontario’s vaccine certification program states businesses can’t retain any information provided by patrons for the purposes of vaccine certification. thestar.com/business/2021/…
Chief operating officer Jason Sheridan said no copies of vaccination certificates or other related documentation will be retained by GoodLife, and both fitness companies say their systems are in compliance with the rules. thestar.com/business/2021/…
Julie Kwiecinski, director of provincial affairs for Ontario at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business, is worried some businesses might incur fines for unknowingly breaking regulations, and called for an education-first approach to enforcement. thestar.com/business/2021/…

NEW: As phase one of Ontario’s vaccine certification system ramps up, the Ford government has released new details of the digital app that will roll out on Oct. 22 — and concerns about the new system are already being raised by the business community.

thestar.com/business/2021/…
Unlike Quebec's app, the Ontario app is being developed is for businesses only. Consumers will not have access to the app but will instead have to download a new version of their vaccine certificate that will be similar to the original one with a QR code.
thestar.com/business/2021/…
Like the old certificates, the new ones can be printed our or displayed on a smartphone and must be presented to specified non-essential businesses at the door for entry.
