1. I discovered a service called roomertravel.com that allows you reserve hotel rooms that someone else booked but doesn’t want anymore
2. I download groupon, wagjag, Travelzoo that have lots of Accomodation deals
3. I use mystery deals I find on Priceline and Hotwire.
When you check for hotels, the name is only revealed after payment. They have discount rates that are massive

I use last minute deals via hoteltonight or lastminute.com as well.
Another thing you can try if you are not afraid and love adventure. It’s called sharing economy- you rent someone’s room while they are away, it’s so cheap
