Doesn't matter if you are a JavaScript developer or yoga enthusiast.
I'm gonna give you the tools so you can create and grow an audience.
Thread 🧵
1. Have a real name and picture.
(Or at least, real-sounding name).
People follow people, it gives them trust, so be yourself, I know it can be scary to show your face online or tell the world your name, but it creates trust.
This is mine. I tell people what technologies I talk about, I tell them I post daily content.
I tell them what I do, and I encourage them to DM me.
Also, I have linked my Revue newsletter so I can grow an audience outside of Twitter simultaneously.
If you don't know what that is, you can start a Newsletter for free here: getrevue.co
Then, you'll need to enable the option on your Integrations settings, under Account settings.
3. Follow people in your niche.
I was interested in web development and JavaScript, so I started following people that posted content related to that.
Seeing how other people create content inspires you and motivates you to do it yourself!
4. Stay in your niche.
If you start on Twitter talking about football, MMA, JavaScript, politics, and golf, it's gonna be very hard for you to build any kind of audience.
Because you are only gonna attract people with those exact interests.
Pick something and stick with it.
Of course, if your niche is JavaScript, you can talk about coding in general, and you can throw a tweet once in a while about a different topic.
The thing is, those tweets don't usually do very well and they lower your conversion rate.
5. Turn on notifications for some creators.
This will send a notification to your phone every time that creator posts a new tweet, so you can go and engage with them.
When you don't have many followers, engaging is better than creating your own content.
Engage when you have something interesting to say, congratulate people on their replies, be positive, be nice. People will remember you for it.
If you have something to add to the conversation, people will love it, and if you're early, you will get eyes on you.
Don't spam.
At some point, you're gonna want to keep track of some creators but you are gonna get tired of all the notifications.
That's when you disable push notifications for tweets on your phone, you're still gonna be receiving them on your notifications tab.
6. Use hashtags when it makes sense.
When you start posting, feels like you are talking to the void, you post something and no one sees it, using hashtags gives you some likes/retweets from bots and some extra impressions.
But it can look spammy.
I would recommend using hashtags like # javascript, # react, # code only when you have less than a 1000 followers.
For some other hashtags like # 100DaysOfCode, use it if you are actually on the challenge, don't use it just because.
7. Share your tweets with other people.
DM people, ask them for feedback on whatever you post.
If you DM me and ask to RT, I'm not gonna do it.
But if you DM me and ask me for feedback, I will tell you how to improve, and if I like your post, I'll promote it.
Don't spam.
8. Make friends and have fun.
Twitter is an amazing tool to network, create connections, getting job opportunities, and overall improve your career.
Talk with people, have calls with them, ask them how they're doing. Making friends is the best way to network and grow.
These are some of the tips that you can use to grow your Twitter account, but I have many more.
