The "Headless Chorus" sung by @regejean in Act II/9 Thermidor is sung in phonetic Greek, a bit loosely 'cos neither Regé nor I speak the language. I based the lyric on Neil's description of its sentiment and the result was kindly translated by @NinaMillns . Here it is in English:
I sing of Blood, I sing of Pain, where all is lost
The screams of those who learn to hate
And lose themselves in vengeful acts of wrath.

Never knowing where to stop, a Senseless Mob;
Anger of Women and Men, a Worm that eats itself.
Freedom and Liberty, Love will never perish come what may ...

I asked the team sound designing The Sandman Act II to talk about how they brought the words of @neilhimself to life for @audible_com@DCComics.
Questions: 1) Toughest sound/scene to create? 2) Your most useful sound tools? 3) Favourite Sound effect or Scene?
Here's the result:
#WilfredoAcosta designed Eps 2-4, 6-8; i.e. the main Season Of Mists episodes. Wilf and I have made noises together since the BBC Radio Superman adventures with @DCComics in the early 90s.
Hardest Sound/Scene to create:
Chapter 7 Scene 9 especially memorable. A lot of work went into getting Azazel’s voice to sound all encompassing (using Brauer Motion, Doppler, Morphoder + Sub harmonics). The swirling ambiences were then manipulated to interact with the characters.
The DC Comics stuff I made for the BBC in the early 90s was released on cassette in the USA and our dearly beloved departed friend Phyllis Hume at @DCComics used to phone to tell me they were being sold in K-Mart, 7-11 etc, and I wondered if audio could be as big as film. /thread
It seemed to me then that comics and audio complemented each other uniquely and that each contributed a storytelling element that the other could only imply. If a project of sufficient scale was out there it might one day be possible to restore audio to its early 20thC status.
Douglas Adams confirmed that when he heard the DC stuff and asked me to pick up the reins on The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy and bring it “home” to audio. We had a certain amount of success worldwide but the rights were bought by Disney who had no interest in promoting audio.
Here is the *Full Cast Rundown* for SANDMAN ACT II in bite-size portions.
