Thread on Pamban Rail bridge, a brief timeline: The current British era Pamban railway bridge connecting mainland & #Rameshwaram was conceptualized in 1870 & opened for passenger service in 1914. Watch video at the thread end (1/5) 
The first challenge to the architecture came in 1964 when a super cyclone struck Rameshwaram, which claimed an entire township of Danushkodi and more than 1000 lives. The railways estimated a minimum 6 months duration for the reworks (2/5).
However, after significant repairs, the bridge ws opened4 traffic in just 46 days, thanks 2a young engineer, E.Sreedharan - 2day a BJP leader & popularly called “Metro Man of India”. Subsequent strengthening was carried throughout the 80s, 90s, 2013, 2015, & 2017 until 2019 (3/5)
Finally, in 2018, after 105 years, at PM @narendramodi Ji’s initiative, a new Railway bridge (Video attached) to this holy place was planned & is now under construction. The bridge is due to be opened in 1st half of 2021 (4/5).
