Sometimes it seems that history appears in strange mirror images. During the civil war, despite the democrats of the south seceding from the union, there were Unionist Democrats who sided with the republicans of the north, and some northern democrats aligned with the south.
But today, as republicans attempt to fracture the Union, it's duplicitous, unfaithful democrats who are siding with republicans. And while those democrats may deny it, their own actions underscore their lies and complicity.
And at the same time, there are former republicans who have given up on their failed party in favor of the democrats as the last best hope. I'd suspect that if this nation's and world survive our current challenges and crises, another reverse will occur.
So maybe history doesn't actually repeat itself, but it reflects itself in a series of inverse or opposable and contrary images in perpetuity?

Go figure.

There was a time in this country when every baby was required to be born no matter the circumstances of it's conception - even rape or incest, regardless of whether that child was wanted or could be cared for, and regardless of whether the family survived or was broken up.
It was never a matter of love, caring, or family. The women were merely vessels, and the children were commodities and pawns for the purposes of others.
Those decisions were made and imposed by craven, evil, small white males who had only their base, lascivious, instincts and reprobate wants in mind, derived purely from their self-anointed sense superiority, privilege, and entitlement.

Can you imagine a United States where every Black or Brown missing young girl (or boy) received the same coverage as Gabby Petito?

No, you can't.

You can't because it's never happened.

I have to be totally honest. I generally am, and that's what keeps me in trouble I suppose.
It is a horrible shame and a disgrace that young people go missing in this country - or anywhere else (the young people who show up in the US as sex slaves or child labor are someone's missing children from some other country.)
It's morally repugnantly and downright ugly that folks who pretend to be moral, upright and decent have demands, needs and appetites that perpetuate missing persons. It's their base, craven, evil demands that often drives this perpetual travesty whatever the reason.

I like what @NicolleDWallace said about democrats being "wrapped around the axel of process." But the process itself is less the problem that a small handful of democrats used process and bipartisanship to hide.
She's right, the GQP would have dismissed every part of the process that would have been in the way, and every bill, process and rule that they needed to accomplish their goals would have been put in place back in February had they won the White House and both houses of Congress.
Meanwhile, democrats writ large are dithering because of a clutch of the party that's in a state of self-imposed suspended animation. Here's the reality: there are some democrats who simply don't care about the rights, interests or wellbeing of the American people.

Funny little story - Politicians, particularly conservatives, pretend they're afraid of true democracy because of "mob rule," as if it wasn't a mob we saw in action on 1/6 with our own eyes. But they continue to work hard to tell us that we didn't actually see what we really saw.
The fact is unless they're inherently evil, mobs tend to not erupt unless the individuals forming the mob are deprived of what they need. But politicians, particularly conservatives, tend to be more about money, power, and influence than action.

But, mostly money.
They know from the beginning that they have no intentions of providing much of what the people want, including to those who vote for them. So they come up with all kinds of stuff - excuses and distractions - like austerity, budget cuts, "small government," fiscal conservatism...

I am deeply sorry for the children who are left behind when their parents die because they refused the vaccine and masking for political reasons. The children are the pawns and victims of monstrous political games, and the choices of their parents.
But I am as equally frustrated, sad, and angry about hospital staffs who are being abused and exploited by antivaxxers for political reasons. Not only are they being exhausted by people becoming desperately ill for almost completely preventable reasons,...
...but just by going to work every day, they walk into extremely hazardous conditions. That goes for everyone from the doctors and nurses providing the treatment to the cleaning and cafeteria staffs providing for patient comfort.

If you look at how the DoJ and FBI handled the failed Epstein investigations years ago, then fast forward to the the Nasser investigation in 2015, then KAVANAUGH in 2018, There is a deep cultural problem with how the Justice Department ignores rape, sex and child trafficking.
That's in spite of the fact that there are federal laws on the books to combat those specific issues. Right now it appears that each time the public becomes aware a a failure, a piecemeal review is done treating each incident as a standalone situation with no depth or results.
The reality is the lack of seriousness that the DoJ and FBI apply to those investigations IS as big a problem as the rapes and trafficking itself. It's a deep, systemic, cultural problem, and it requires a deep root cause analysis - and criminal charges for officials - to fix it.
