Top 4 pieces of advice I received during our fundraise:
1. Decide on the structure of your round and stick to it.
Once you start getting attention, funds will bully you to change it to suit their needs. Remember, the ball is in your court.
2. The first commit is the hardest.
At first, it might feel like no one wants in. Discouraging doesn't begin to cover it.
But that first partner can be your greatest ally. Everything can change in an instant.
3. Fundraising is building a team.
It's not just collecting checks. Each investor plays a unique role. You want a warrior, a mage, and a healer—not three of one class.
4. Practice self-care... and cofounder care.
Fundraising is a grind. At one point in our raise, I was seriously depressed. Lean on your cofounder—no one understands better than they do—and do the same for them. (Shoutout to @rawfalafel for being my rock!)
Though we're proud to have bootstrapped @orca_so, I'm equally proud of how we've grown the Orca family through our Series A.
Now, we have not only a clear runway, but new mentors, friends, and ever more confidence in our team.
Now, back to building 🐳
