According to Daniel, Michael is the particular protector of Israel. In Galatia, his shrine featured 'thaumaturgical fish-nibbling.' At Ravenna, he was shown sporting the purple cloak & buskins of a Roman general.

Last week I stood before this great statue on the wall of Coventry Cathedral - which is dedicated to the archangel. It was, I think, the last commission completed by Jacob Epstein before his death. Epstein narrowly decided against using Lucian Freud as his model. #Michaelmas
