twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1…
.@SenCapito on refocusing on the opioid crisis: "We just need to really focus on what's working and what doesn't work. We need to just move it on the wayside and say that didn't work, it doesn't work, and let's put the money where it does work." Image
@sam_baker @TreedinDC @SenCapito @NIDAnews .@SenCapito: "I think what we saw with the COVID reaction is what we need to be doing...that's prevention and education that is starting at the lowest levels of our grade schools and junior highs to talk about the consequences of drugs, to talk about what can happen." Image
.@NIDAnews Director Nora Volkow: "In 2020, we've seen a 30 percent increase in the number of people that have died from overdoses from various types of drugs. The main culprits are opioids, of which the main driver is the very potent synthetic drug, fentanyl." Image

🧵: The story of Ozy became so viral so fast because it highlighted the worst parts of every industry in America: naive investors, digital media outlets faking their numbers and over-zealous startup founders toeing the line between dishonesty and delusion.
axios.com/how-ozy-fell-2…
Ozy Media was built on years of lies that together created a false narrative about its business, financials and culture, according to documents obtained by Axios, and dozens of conversations with former employees, investors, business partners and advisers.
axios.com/how-ozy-fell-2…
• One source said that more than 95% of viewership for “The Carlos Watson Show” was paid

• Another said the company bought most of its social media following

• Two sources said execs included social media interactions in overall reach metrics

All the minute-by-minute political drama obscures how much America could change if even a fraction of Biden's two major spending bills passes.

Anything short of total failure could have a transformative impact on day-to-day life — from how we move around to our access to the internet, paid family leave and child care, health care and college. axios.com/bidens-infrast…
🚊 Transportation: More people would be driving electric cars, and lower-income people would have better access to public transit.

High-speed trains, rather than flying, could well become the preferred way to travel between certain metro areas. axios.com/bidens-infrast…

.@RonWyden: "I also think when we talk about paying for these investments, whether it's paid leave or child care or home and community-based services, we ought to say everybody should pay their fair share."

SCOOP: Federal law enforcement agencies are purchasing surveillance drones from a Chinese company the Pentagon has deemed a potential national security threat, Axios has learned.

trib.al/Wk9pJ1V
The U.S. Secret Service is the latest to purchase surveillance drones from the Shenzhen-based company DJI, which dominates the commercial drone market in the U.S. and abroad.

axios.com/federal-law-en…
In 2017, the DHS stated that DJI was "providing U.S. critical infrastructure and law enforcement data to the Chinese government."

In 2019, the Interior Department grounded its non-emergency drone fleet because of concerns over Chinese interference.

We deleted a previous tweet after this piece was corrected to show the mounted agents were whipping at the migrants — not necessarily using whips.
NEW:

"[DHS] does not tolerate the abuse of migrants in our custody and we take these allegations very seriously.”
