now that the french dispatch is (semi)out in the world and tilda's (semi)portrayal of rosamund bernier is out there i cannot recommend enough reading bernier's memoir amazon.com/Some-My-Lives-…

it's such a weird piece of writing! sort of like an art diary meets who-i-banged meets european travel guide meets college lecture and also fashion magazine???? it's very good for fall because it's all about crisp seduction and seasonal affairs

also what you will see in the film is tilda giving a museum lecture like bernier did for decades (rosamund was never really a features writer, so that part of tilda's character is a composite of other women). her met lectures are so worth watching: nytimes.com/video/arts/119…

the people have spoken so it’s time for your quarterly madcap on a budget suggestions: what is the ONE thing you would tell someone to buy to gild or enhance -- even SLIGHTLY -- their life that costs $25 or under. i'm talking something frivolous and silly but that brings you joy

my contributions for this round: a fancy watering can, marble enamel mugs, witch baby bath bombs, copper straws, and that Laniege lip mask

also brins jam, preferably the lemon saffron marmalade, and the Trader Joe’s lemon creme baton cookies that are like creamsicle pirouline and cost $4 but taste like 20

you cannot deny that olivia going to the white house looks like a promo poster for a 2004 rom com called Heart of State about the first daughter who (whoops!) falls for a hunk who works in the rose garden during his summers off from college and they are star-crossed

at first, they hate each other! she's studying to get into georgetown! he rides a motorcycle! she's a priss! he's a rebel! but then, one night, as it turns out, he learns that she is a rebel too. climbing down a trellis? changing into a miniskirt? she does it all.

he's like "let me show you MY dc" and they have a wild night of dancing and going to all night restaurants and then she's like let me show you MY dc and you think she's going to take him to a fancy thing on the hill but really she takes him to...a skate park
