Rwanda has a kick ass army and they showcased it in their intervention in Mozambique. Fresh from capturing a strategic northern Mozambican port held by terrorists for a year they pursuing the insurgents into sorrounding areas.
Rwandan forces drove out Islamist militants in Mozambique's gas-rich Cabo Delgado province within days. What Mozambique couldn't do in a year.

On August 9, the Rwandan military took the strategically important northern Mozambican port of Mocimboa da Praia from militants
The jihadis had occupied the port for over a year but fled towards Tanzania on motorcycles as Rwandan forces approached. Others melted away into the thick forests south of Mocimboa. Around 70 militants were killed.
This is Rwanda, a small land locked East African country retaking Mocimboa da Praia, an important military victory on foreign soil. The Rwandans have every reason to be proud. The Rwandan military showcase itself as one of the most competent and best-organized army in Africa.
They also have some pretty sleek hardware. Like this SH-3 122mm tracked self propelled howitzer.
Atmos 5000 155mm self propelled howitzer
Red arrow HJ-9 anti-tank guided missiles. They strapped it on a Cobra APC.

It is the largest military exercise ever conducted by any military in Sub Sahara Africa: Exercise Golden Dawn, Enduring Peace and Still Waters is mustering thousands of troops, 70 warships, dozens of aircafts, tanks, Special Forces Personnel etc
This reflects a paradigme shift in Nigeria's defence posture and the growing might of the Nigerian armed forces. Nigeria is caught between playing down the scale of its exercises, for diplomatic reasons, and embellishing them, to awe its enemies.
The aim is to provide a complex environment in which the joint arm of the Nigerian military can train together, honing tactics and skills in preparation for future eventualities.

Military personnel will be put through a range of realistic, simulated scenarios including crisis

It is sometimes disheartening the level of criticism and controversy that trails Nigerian airstrikes. The French news agency AFP is now claiming contrary to what the NAF said, the death toll from Sundays airstrike is much hire than 20, trying to make something out of it.
So its Sunday morning. NAF ISR aircraft reveals terrorists are amassing at Kwatar Daban Masara, in Lake Chad. Obviously planning an attack. This area is a bastion for ISWAP.
The NAF has two options.

1. Wait for them to carry out their attacks and kill innocent civilians before hiting them

Looks like the House of Representative is finally getting something right. The House is seeking alternative sources of income to fund capital expenditure and training for the Nigerian Armed Forces in its bid to transform the Nigerian military into the best in Africa.
Ok.Hyperbole..but you get the point. House Committee on Defence, Babajimi Benson, said only 9% of the Armed Forces’ annual allocations goes for capital expenditure in the face of rising insecurity. The House wants to create an exclusive five year funding plan independent of the
annual budgetary allocations for the Nigerian military. It aims to revamp the military through special training and provision of modern fit for purpose defence equipment to build a Nigerian military commensurate with Nigeria's position as the Africa's biggest economic power.

Piracy is one of the world’s oldest profession. Piracy attacks have taken place in the Gulf of Guinea more than the Horn of Africa and as such, offshore oil platforms are reliant on the Nigerian Navy to respond to piracy attacks day and night 24/7.
These offshore oil and gas platforms are clustered in Nigeria's Exclusive Economic Zones, which extend 200 nautical miles from our coastline. This is a vast geographical area over which the Nigerian Navy is stretched fairly thin.
To monitor such a vast area the Nigeria navy relies on some of the most sophisticated land, sea and airborne maritime surveillance platforms in the world.

I revisit these past events because forgeting your history can be dangerous. A nation that wants to survive must learn from past experience lest we repeat the mistakes of the past.

Between 2012 and 2015 Boko Haram Created a $100 million Empire of Death and Destruction.
Boko Haram’s rapid takeover of an area the size of Belguim, coupled with a series of high profile kidnappings and senseless killings catapulted the Jihadi group into the league of the world’s deadliest terrorist groups with 25,000 to 30,000 fighters.
If the Jihadi group was a sovereign country, it would have the 3rd largest army in West Africa. They had a rocket force that produced thousands of improvised rockets. How they got the know-how is not much of a secret.

So how did they become a multi-million dollar enterprise?

Lets cut out the analytical histrionics. People will rather beat around the bush than give the military the complete credit it deserves, and even when they "reluctantly" do give credit, it is in a fleeting and lacklustre manner.
Operation Barbarosa-like aerial bombardment is responsible for the mass surrender of insurgentsa. Some reporters do not understand war strategy. The NAF was traditionally employed in a supporting capacity. This changed when the army and AF came under a central command. SYNERGY.
Instead of playing a supporting role,ie primarily contributing airpower to combat operations, the NAF is now used as the tip of the spear of the military's campaign. Relentless strategic airstrikes targeting top commanders and logistic depots weakened the insurgents.
