If Broadway is struggling to fill seats, I don’t understand why they haven’t opened up a larger block of cheaper tickets for people who can’t afford a reg ticket. Wouldn’t having a full audience who bought $35 tix be better than having a half full audience that bought $200 ones?
It’s almost as if they only want to keep the seats available for the upper class and limit the amount of art that lower income people can afford to see 🤔
it always comes down to money, racism, and classism. always.
Like, if I could get a guaranteed $35 ticket, I would see a Broadway show as much as possible. No lottery, no rush, just open seats up for lower income people.
I don’t want Broadway to be “back.” I want Broadway to be BETTER.
Or stream it! I know it’s not the same as live theatre, but I’m sure people would be willing to pay to stream a limited access Broadway show, the same way Disney has limited time streams for new movies on Disney+. There are options for Broadway to be accessible AND make money.
People are twisting my words. I never said that I wanted them to make ALL tickets cheaper (albeit that would be nice), I just think if there are extra seats that aren’t selling, why not try to appeal to NYCers and offer them for cheap? Isn’t some profit better than none?
I love the people that are just telling me to do basic math. Like, yes, I’m aware it wouldn’t be profitable for the millionaires that produce the show. I’m saying Broadway is absolutely not what it used to be. Tickets used to be affordable and more shows used to be original.
We can get back to that, we just have to change our thinking about accessibility/affordability, staying true to the craft, while also being able to pay the staff and the rent. Tourists are great, but we don’t need to keep solely catering to wealthy people.
Broadway ticket prices went up starting in the 80’s as Boomers had more money to spend and wanted to feel special that they were spending lots of money on the best experience. The culture is shifting. Millennials and Gen Z aren’t like that. This model isn’t sustainable.

I got my third tattoo yesterday! For those of you that don’t know, I have a skin disease called ichthyosis. It’s incurable. My skin gets very dry in cool/dry weather. When I was young it was really bad. I had dry, patchy, flaky skin all over my body and I hated my skin for years.
As a young kid, I thought I was half giraffe since the pattern of my condition looked like giraffe print. Giraffes have always been my favorite animal because of that. I love how unique they are, evolving to adapt to their environment, and how beautiful they look because of that.
As I’ve grown, I’ve learned to love my skin and myself because of my uniqueness, just like a giraffe. 🦒
This tattoo was done by the incredible Mikki Reeve (@/inkedbymik on Insta). I just love it.
You can have your personal feelings about Yang’s politics, while also agreeing that a two party system should no longer exist in our country. I’ve debated changing my party affiliation for a while, but because you can’t vote in a primary in NYC as an independent, I stayed.
There are a lot of things that Democrats do that I absolutely disagree with. I don’t agree with funding war with billions of dollars. I don’t agree with the plan to keep oil pipelines. I don’t agree that we have given up the fight for minimum wage. Etc, etc.
I think it’s important for us to think critically. As important as it is to stop the GOP from dismantling the country more, it’s also important for us to not fall prey to the same tribal “us or them” feelings that Dems try to make you feel.
