There is no way to humanize or soften the violence of deportation.
Biden’s new immigration memo comes days after CBP’s brutal dehumanization of Haitian migrants. Far from upending racist Trump-era policies, it reinforces the false idea that immigrants are a threat. 🧵⬇️
This memo gives federal immigration officials more power and less accountability, and justifies state-sponsored violence.
Instead, Biden must terminate the racist Title 42, close detention centers, free people, and defund ICE to truly enact change towards immigrant justice.
Since @JoeBiden took office, detention has increased by 70%. The admin has repeatedly broken its promises, simply repackaging existing violent anti-immigrant policies.
We urge @POTUS to focus on downsizing the deportation machine, not simply redirecting it.
Community member & ALC client Phi Pham was found to be a “threat to public safety,” and denied discretion 4x under the prior memo, and will likely be denied under this memo as well, even though he was awarded early parole.
As long as the govt perpetuates racist immigration policies, CA can & should stop collaborating with ICE.
The #VISIONact will protect our immigrant community from the threat of deportation and allow them to be fully thriving members of society. bit.ly/VISIONAct
The federal govt’s notion of “national/border security threats” is xenophobic & has fueled 20 years of racist surveillance.
We sent a memo calling on the Biden admin to dismantle post 9-11 national security frameworks that criminalize our communities: bit.ly/20yearsmemo
