My best🧵thread ever

I've been talking a lot lately about how our ancestors knew more about medicine then we give them credit for.

They weren't the primitive witch doctors they're portrayed as.

Today's example: Bromelain.

In tropical environments, tribal people relied..(1/17)
On plentiful Pineapples for medicinal purposes.

Specifically, these tribes would grind the stems and consume them.

Like all natural, tribal "medicine" it was chalked up to culture & superstition...

It wasn't until the 19th century that a Venezuelan scientist isolated the enzyme BROMELAIN in Pineapple.

However, it took until 1957 before researchers discovered that the highest concentrations of the enzyme were in the pineapple’s stem.
Since then, this enzyme has been shown in studies to have the follow benefits;

PAIN RELIEF FROM OSTEOARTHRITIS - (3/17)

A German study concluded bromelain effective in treating Arthritis, & better tolerated than the prescription alternative.

POST-SURGICAL HEALING

Bromelain also has the potential to speed up healing following surgical procedures, significantly reducing swelling following surgery - (4/17)

HEALING INJURIES

One study examined the efficacy of bromelain in treating patients who experienced a blunt trauma injury. Researchers found that bromelain had significant effect on swelling, pain levels & tenderness in the affected area.-(5/17)

SINUS COMPLAINTS

A 2005 study compared bromelain with standard medications in treating children suffering acute sinusitis. Those who were treated with only bromelain experienced significantly faster recovery rates than any of the other patients.- (6/17)

INFLAMMATORY BOWEL DISEASE

Research by Duke University discovered that mice treated with bromelain experienced a reduced incidence of colitis. Bromelain also reduced the severity of IBD in mice with pre-existing conditions.

SKIN CONDITIONS

Researchers have found that bromelain could effectively treat pityriasis lichenoides chronica, a skin disease that causes long-lasting skin lesions and has an unknown cause. Treatment has proven to be difficult and unpredictable...(8/17)

A study published in 2007 found that all 8 subjects treated with bromelain recovered completely after 3 months of treatment. - (9/17)

CANCER

An animal experiment published in 2007 was conducted to examine the ability of bromelain to treat several forms of cancer. Mice were induced with breast, bone, lung, skin and blood cancer before being treated with bromelain. - (10/17)

When compared to mice not given bromelain, those that were treated with the supplement experienced significantly increased survival rates apart from mice with skin cancer. - (11/17)

A study from 2007 also demonstrates the potential anticancer ability of bromelain. Mice were treated with bromelain before being induced with skin cancer. Researchers found that bromelain slowed down the development of tumors as well as reducing the volume and..(12/17)

A recent in study published in 2013 found that bromelain could inhibit the proliferation as well as the survival of gastric cancer cells though it should be noted this experiment was carried out in vitro. (14/17)

Last but not least:

C0VID-19

A recent study found Bromelain Inhibits SARSCoV-2 Infection in VeroE6 Cells.

The study concluded:

"Our results suggest that bromelain or bromelain rich pineapple stem may be used as an antiviral against COVID-19." -(15/17)

So what is the point of all of this?

The point is the archetype of the superstitious natives, who ate roots and seeds for no reason other than tribal traditions and ignorance is totally false.

Our ancestors were wiser than we can ever know.

(16/17)
The other main takeaway is that Mother Earth has probably provided her children with all the medicine and cures we need. We just need to look.

We need to have the courage to revisit the wisdom of our ancestors, and learn what they knew 1,000's of years ago.

I can't believe I've never heard of this scandal before.

Forget about trusting the government, do you trust Pfizer?
And years later this came out:

And after all of those bribes to Nigerian officials, what became of the Nigerian government's own investigation report? There were 3 copies, all were "lost."
