While we have your attention, here's a THREAD on some of our other money-related investigations:
1. #CAPTURED - This series was also based on a leak of documents, but from IFMIS. We looked into the role of enablers of tendepreneurs, found a SENATOR & MP owning companies with very strange activity, and looked into the Managed Equipment Leasing Scheme:
2. Kenya Airways: Fall of the Pride - as the name suggests, this series was based on the turn in the fortunes of Kenya Airways, chronicling the impact that Project Mawingu, and other questionable decisions had on the Pride of Africa's difficulties:
3. KENYA'S DEBT CYCLE: Kenya's indebtedness as viewed through the impact that the Standard Gauge Railway loan have had on Kenya's debt position:
THE PROFITEERS: Published this month in 2018, this report chronicled how Kenya and Uganda became destinations for illicit wealth stolen from South Sudan.
INSPECTOR FISI: With up-close hidden camera footage shared with us by a network of citizen investigators, we told the story of the daily corruption that police officers perpetrate against operators in the matatu sector:
#KANJOKINGDOM: The first investigation we did as @AfUncensored . Again, with the help of citizen investigators, we showed how a cartel of city inspectorate officers cashed in on informal traders in Nairobi, using violence, intimidation, and murder:
In between, we have produced lots of documentaries, short stories, and interview segments that we believe have been important. We've always tried to connect what we do to the lives of everyday people, and collaborated as much as we could...
I'm grateful for the support we've received after the latest report we produced and we're humbled to have been a part of the biggest collaboration in history. You can follow our work here, on Youtube or when we publish on @Shaharake
Let me start by saying that I have profound respect for many of the journalists and editors at @KTNNews. So it was indeed a shock when I learnt earlier today that @KTNNews decided not to run the story as promised and promoted. #TheProfiteers
They were largely happy with the story, but wanted to remove certain parts of it as they sought comment from an adversely mentioned person. We disagreed, given that we had already sought fair comment from this person. @KTNNews#TheProfiteers
