Reuters goes as far as to falsely quote the Defense Ministry of Taiwan as saying that Chinese aircraft entered Taiwan’s “air defence zone” on Oct 1 and has done so in prior flights for “a year or more.”

On Taiwan's Ministry of National Defense website, it states, “Air activities in the southwestern ADIZ of R.O.C.” occurred on Oct. 1.

But an air defense identification zone, or “ADIZ,” differs significantly from an air defense zone, or "ADZ."

ADZ's are territorial, & aircraft within an ADZ can be intercepted militarily for defense purposes. Taiwan's Ministry of Defense did not state that the ADZ was breached.

So what exactly is an ADIZ, which Taiwan's Ministry of Defense agrees China's aircraft entered?

An ADIZ is airspace over land or water in which the identification, location, & control of civil aircraft is performed in the interest of national security.

An ADIZ is unilateral, not recognized as sovereign airspace by international law, not defined in any international treaty, & not regulated by any international body. Aircraft within an ADIZ cannot be intercepted unless they initiate hostile action.

The US State Department, under former Sec. of State Kerry, has even stated that “We don't support efforts by any State to apply its ADIZ procedures to foreign aircraft not intending to enter its national airspace."

What does Taiwan’s ADIZ include?
It covers more mainland China territory than Taiwan provincial territory. Taiwan has an ADIZ that covers most of the Taiwan Strait, part of the Chinese province of Fujian, Zhejiang, & Jiangxi & part of the East China Sea & adjacent airspace.

Notably, Taiwan's ADIZ was designed & created by the US military after WWII. The US established the first official ADIZ during the Cold War & has been a driving force in the creation of ADIZs in the Asia-Pacific & elsewhere to counter China & Russia.

Accuracy & specificity in reporting matter, especially as the US escalates its hybrid war on China, manufactures consent for war from the public, & coerces other nations into dangerous military alliances that threaten global safety.
